and Beach Fishing Report by Alex Bellissimo: June Report 2008 BEACH FISHING: The Tailor action is on fire at the moment with Dee Why , Narrabeen ,and Manly beach’s being regular haunts for these gelatine machines with some fish up to two kg plus but the very next day producing fish of half the weight. Brad Anderson had a ball on these green back Tailor and they bit well into the night coming through in flurries even though it was during that unreliable time, flat seas of less than half a metre. When the seas have been up slightly more I have been getting fisho’s onto fairly regular halls of school jewis. Jeff Wall was one happy chap with Whaler Sharks to 1.3m Tailor to 1.5kg and an 8kg Jew all caught on live Yellowtail and sweep. Being a fairly flat night of about .7 of a metre we fished in close generally about twenty metres out for best results. Stewart Williams and Mike Anderson travel from the Blue Mountains for several seasons to target the elusive jewfish for no results so they needed to be guided. On the night the fish were on fire with bites from JEWFISH, Sharks, and Tailor every cast. The Tailor were up to at least 2kg and they were abundant with Whaler Sharks virtually every cast at one stage as well. The Jewfish came in flurries with 4 fish to at least 5kg landed and I counted a minimum six missed bites from jewis . That’s virtually as good as it gets the only obvious way to better that is larger fish. Darryl Dewar also had a similar scenario having to travel a fairly long distance to the salti brine and it did pay off. Coincidently every time his kids would call him in the mobile he would say a nice Tailor, next call another nice Tailor, then they called again and he caught a ripper of a Salmon of at least 4kg then on the last call a nice jewi of at least 6kg and my client was just back-flipping. We called it a night fairly soon afterwards. All of the fish were caught on live Yellow Tail and “Chrissie trees” . The Rocks: regular customer Rob Marich had a session fishing for Snapper using Red Crab segment’s with “Squire” to 1.5kg , Bream to 1.1kg and a Brown Groper of about 2kg. It’s a slight differentiation in technique in comparison to fish bait Snapper fishing. The location fished was Bluefish Point’s eastern front but as I keep maintaining only venture to these type of locations if you are familiar with the ocean rhythms and hidden dangers. John halford had a Snapper experience but this time it was applied using fish baits (pillies) and the results were quite good getting into 5 Snapper to 1kg and Trevally to near 1kg also. Both snapper sessions were fishing the wash using light led’s and of course burley was essential and the location was Curl Curl’s “flat rock” area and fishing reasonably flat conditions just after a moderate swell. Happy and Smart fishin.
August 2007 Report Mike Smith came out with me to learn about searching the beach for worms, and using them in the close gutters. He had a reasonable day out too, with plenty of worms found, leading to a nice bag of 2 Bream and 5 nice sized Whiting. There are plenty of fish about for those who wish to target different species as well. Herman Uriola landed a 3lb Bream and a 3.5kg Salmon, interestingly using Salmon for bait. Ed Caught Trevally, Bream, Salmon and Tailor off Mona Vale pool, and Matt Johns fished South Curly baths for Flatties to 1.5kilos using pillies for bait. There are also plenty of Whaler sharks coming back on, mostly between the 1/2 to 1 metre mark. If you would like to learn more about catching any of these or any other fish from the rocks or the beaches please feel free to contact me on 0408 283 616 Cheers Alex Bellissimo
