Botany Bay and Port Hacking
Report by Scotty
Lyons,
Report 01
05 07
The Bay is at its best at
this time of the year and there is plenty on offer, I have had so far
a top summer period and some out standing days.
Kingie this year have been in good numbers and
are still around as we are scoring good fish each trip, The best Kingie
this year was caught by Andrew just of Cape Banks on a live Yellow Tail
this fish was around 12 to 15kgs and it was 1080mm in length we have also
boated plenty of fish around 75cm to 85cms and these fish are more common
each year this is a sign that all has improved since the traps stoped
back in 1995 let all hope we never see this type of fishing again as the
Kingies are worth more to all of us as a rec fish, Just ask all that come
out with me for the day, The first question they ask is, Are we targeting
kingies.
Kingies are a big part of all my outings each day
while the fish are still around, All remember that screaming first run
as the head for cover.
I had great results this year at a number of spots,
The Drums in the middle has produced quite a few good fish, Cape Banks
is another spot that will produce but I have found this spot a little
hot and cold. Trevally Alley (Container Wall) is a top spot but can be
a little hard at time to get a spot as plenty of anglers fish this spot
each weekend.
I have also caught plenty of Kingies around all
the markers, I never fish Trevally Alley if its to busy I just head to
one of the markers and anchor just out of the channel and fish with Squid
or live Baits, These spots will produce good fish along with plenty of
other species at times and the same applies to all the spots that I have
just listed, Just add burley and fish light as I do every trip while targeting
Kingies we are catching Trevally, Bream and the odd small Snapper I have
also caught Salmon, Tailor and Bonito at these spots so far this year.
I don`t have a number one spot to point out as
each day that I fish I will try a number of spots and most will produce
on there day its up to you to move around as I do and you will find fish.
Flathead are the only fish that has been a little
slow for me this summer, Spending to much time chasing Kingies, We have
found the odd fish mainly while chasing Bream in the middle of the Bay
just out of the runways, Bream have been very consistence all summer and
will hang around for the next month or so, I have caught every trip so
far this year when Iam fishing for Bream around six to a twelve each trip
as long as there is plenty of run in the water you are in with a great
chance, Nippers are my number one bait but peeled Prawns and Blood Worms
are also worth trying.

Botany Bay report
After the big wet and we needed it thats for shore, Fishing did slow for
a few days as all took time to adjust into the amount of fresh pushing
down river but the river needed a good flush and this should help as summer
is almost here.
The ocean rocks just out from Cape Banks and north is holding school of
Salmon there are a little shy but small metal slices or small soft plastics
seem to work but plenty of cast to hook one fish there is also so a few
Bonito feeding along the edges as well and a small trolled lure or skirt
will pick them up and early morning seems the best time for this.
Trevally Alley was a little quite for about a week with only small numbers
of Trevally caught, But this week its back on with good size Trevally
and the odd Bream feeding again right along the wall, I have found nippers
and Pilchards working well fished in a burley trail.
The Drums in the middle are also holding Trevally along with large Yelllow
Tail.
The Hot water is fishing well after dark or just on first light for Tailor,
Pilchards fished into the boil working well.
Bream are now starting to move along the main channel from Towra point
and back towards the bridge this is worth fishing late afternoon or first
light I pick up two nice Bream hear at 12.30pm last week on Nippers fished
on the bottom on the run in tide.
The odd King is showing up but there still only in very small numbers,
Live bait or fresh Squid will be your best chance in temping one to take
a bait.
Port hacking running hot and cold as normal, Luderick and Leatherjacket
are my two species that I would target this month and you should do well,
Tailor and the odd Salmon might be found if trolling along the deeper
edges in the Port.
South fron the Port there is a few Bonito for the angler trolling and
quite a few Snapper feeding in the white water, Early morning is your
best chance for this.
Remember that our Fishing school is on once a month at Hunts Marine, The
class is a full days fishing out on Botany Bay after a night at Hunts
Marine this is a great way to find out where I fish the species that I
target at what time of the year and how I rig for them I fine that many
of my client that come to the schools are not new to the game but fish
quite offen all I show is my methods and spot to fish so keep this in
mind and let me help you catch fish every time you hit the water.

August 2006
Botany Bay wild and windy
thats the way the weather has been for weeks now, Let hope we are starting
to turn the corner as far as the weather goes.
Trevally are just about every were I fish Trevally Alley for plenty of
fish on Sunday the 6th The size is rather small with the odd better fish
mixed in.
Found a few Tailor feeding down deep along the runway and trolloing scored
a few fish but the conditions made it a tough day.
Water quality was rather good after all the rain still need a good flush
from ruther up the river lets hope this comes just before summer to start
us into the season ahead.
Bill Lyons has fished rather well over the last few weeks for good catches
of Luderick from the stones in the National park fishing small protected
corners, Just watch the seas along this strech of coast.

May 2006
Trevally are now firing
well from most of the better known spots, Trevally Alley (Container wall)
is fishing well and I have scored well here on most outings, You will
need burley to bring them on and keep a small flow of burley in the water
as this keeps them keen, Nippers or peeled Prawns or Pilchard cubes as
bait. Other spots that I have score well are Sutherland point, Bare island
and around the red cans just out from Port Botany, Bream are now also
mixing in with the Trevally so it may pay to fish one bait on the bottom.
Tailor
are still only in small numbers but they are good size fish, I trolled
the bottom end of Yarra Bay on Tuesday for good results I have also scored
the odd Tailor and Salmon trolling just of the Third Runway, The old runway
might be worth a try as well.
Spinning
for Flathead has been a little slow and we are only catching the odd fish
so you will have to work hard if you are looking for a feed of Flathead.
Kings
are starting to thin out a little we are still finding a few but slim
pickings as the water has now dropped a little still hang a live bait
over the side or good Squid as King will turn up when you don`t expect
them.
Bream
and Flathead are worth targeting just of Towra Point fish wide of the
point in three to four metres of water for best results, Nippers or blood
worms for the Bream and small live bait are your best chance to temp a
Flathead.
The
Fishing School at Hunts Marine is one way to learn how to fish Botany
Bay and all of Sydney’s water ways this is a hands one school which
includes a full day out on the water looking at all ways to catch the
fish that live in our waters, Rigs, Baits, Lures, Gear and so on so if
you would like to be that angler that scores a feed of fish every day
out there on the water give me a call and I will do my best to help you
become a top notch fisho. Check out www.fishingsydney.com.au or just give
me a call 0418 169 439.

The Bream are still hanging off the Third runway but there is no size
to them most are around 25to 30cms I have found that nippers are the best
bait, Both tides will produce fish.
Kings are consistent and we are scoring well most days between two to
four fish and the odd Salmon mixed in, I have caught most of the King
with live baits over the last few weeks but you will need to move around
to find them.
Flathead this week are just started to fire I have caught a few off the
Third runway spinning with Squidges so most other spots should start firing
over the next few weeks lets hope so.
Still not to many Trevally as the water this year is to warm for them
so give them a month or so and we will see them on the bite again.
Slimy Mackerel are hanging around the drums in the middle of the Bay and
there quite large and provide plenty of fun on light tackle so keep this
one in mind if you are after so fresh slab bait or tastier filets for
grilling.
I have caught the odd Trevally spinning while targeting Flathead most
Trevally are coming from deeper edges smaller plastic working a treat.
Tailor just starting to show and we caught a few that were 60cms stud
Tailor for the Bay.
SORRY ABOUT THE DELAY ON THE REPORT I WILL TRY AND KEEP IT MORE PRESENT
FISH HARD SCOTTY LYONS www.fishingsydney.com.au
Botany Bay report 17 Dec
Tailor are feeding on the surface and this is providing plenty of light
tackle fun, I have found that most the fish are schooling just out from
the third run way and back towards the old runway but this may change
day to day.
Bream should start to school and the fish that I have caught over the
last few weeks are full of row, I have hear that there are plenty of solid
fish still hanging around the upper reaches and most of these fish have
fallen to surface lures late afternoon or early morning.
There has been plenty of reports of Kings but I have only caught a few,
Next month I think we will see plenty of King move right into Botany Bay.
Spinning with soft plastic is only scoring the odd fish and you will have
to work for them, I have found that the shallow water is very quite so
try a little deeper you may score better.
The high light this week is the Tailor schools and let hope this continues
over the Christmas period.
All the best for Christmas to everybody and catch plenty as this is the
best time of the year for fishing around the Sydney.

dec
Trevally are still saving the day as the fishing has been a little tough
for a few weeks, We are catching quality fish on each outting but working
hard to do so.
Trevally alley is the spot just anchor just of the Container wall and
fish light, Burley may be needed but only just a small amount will do
the job.
Small rat King are in the Bay most fish that I have caught are 55 to 57cms
just under that legal lenght of 60cms but as the water warms up so will
the action on the Kings.
Spinning at the moment is tough with the odd fish caught and I have tried
most of beachs around the Bay.
There is a few anglers that have found a few Bream and Whiting mostly
taken on blood worms, Towra point wide or the middle of the Bay seems
the spots to fish and some of the Whiting are as long as your fore arm
these are top fish. All the rain will fire the Bream up and it should
ber top fishing over the next few weeks this is what we needed.

SCOTTY LYONS REPORT 13
September 2005
Botany Bay report and Trevally alley(The Container Wall) is still firing
with good catches morning and all day the Trevally are staying put I have
found that peeled Prawn or a nice cube of Pilchard working well, Other
areas that are fishing well for Trevally and worth a shot are Oil wharf
and the drop off just of the third run way.
I caught a few good Flathead this week and Towra would be one of the better
spots, One trip there we caught four good fish and one just on 65cms all
caught on a Green Tiger Squidge betwwen 12pm amd 1pm so there is no need
to be on the water to early just work the sandy hole around the weedy
spots.
Salmon are schooling just along the coastal rock ledges from Botany Bay
to Yellow rock and I have had better results early morning, Trolling past
the head land last Thursday we caught two Salmon and one solid Bonito
around 2.5kg I also try fishing around the wedding cake island just of
coggee and found plenty of Trevally and big schools of Sweep.
So the start of spring has seen rather good fishing and Ive found the
fishing over winter this year one of the better year sign of good thing
to come as the Kings are only around the corner bring them on.

Well havn`t hear much from Botany Bay as
last week I was guiding a group fishing in Weipa in far north QLD this
is a new venture that I have running now and this trip turn out rather
good with plenty of fish caught, Quite a few feeds of Coral Trout and
if you have eaten Coral Trout before you now what Iam talking about, These
trips are Six nights and seven day live aboard so you can fish 24/7 if
you wish.
Weipa is quite a special place as the fish verity provides the angler
with the chance to spin the creeks for Barra, Jacks, Cod ect and the creek
mouths fish well for Trevally and Queen fish and then its only a short
run to fish the blue water for Long Tail Tuna, Mackerel or spin the shallow
coral bommies for Coral Trout and other reef dwellers this can all fit
into one day if you wish, Top fishing in my book.
There are a few weeks still free for next year if any one is keen just
give me a call and I can send you some info. (Adam please give me a call
about your dates for next year mate thanks).
I try and send a fresh report for botany bay next week as Iam fishing
this weekend.

SCOTTY LYONS REPORT. 9
August
Botany Bay.
Cold starts are the norm at this time of the year and the fishing is a
little mixed with hard days and good days, The Trevally are still your
best chance and the container wall is fishing well and its a great spot
when the wind from the west is blowing. Fishing the bottom here will produce
Leatherjackets you may have to move in close to the wall for best results.
I have found a few Salmon working forshore drive but they are very flighty
and only showing themselves for a few seconds before going deep.
Trolling will produce the odd Tailor but you will need to spend a fare
amount of time trolling for results.
I have seen a few good catchs of Bream from the Bay this week but the
anglers are keeping there spots quite, Bloodworms are there choice for
bait and they also had a few good Whiting in there mix.
So Botany Bay for this time of the year is fishing rather well but you
might have to work a little.
FISH HARD SCOTTY LYONS.
SCOTTY LYONS REPORT BOTANY BAY.
Botany
Bay, Stay in bed as the fishing at the moment with the dirty water and
strong winds from the west making all very tough, Off shore may give you
a better chance as the water is cleaner along the coast.
I fished on Friday and found the Bay very quite no Trevally at the Container
Wall but this may change in a day or to, Trolled a nice Salmon and spun
up one Flathead, Found a few fish off shore but again all was very quite.
Fish Hard Scotty Lyons.
Botany
Bay seems to improve each year and the reports coming from other anglers
that fish the Bay are very impressive, Bream are still hanging across
the shallows of Towra point and towards the sticks Blood worms are the
number one bait also the odd Whiting are mixed with the Bream and at this
time of the year they are normally a good size.
The land based angler
fishing along the beach at Brighton are scoring plenty of solid Whiting,
Most anglers are finding that Bloodworm are the pick as bait.
Tailor are hanging
along the Oil wharf and if you anchor hear and burley with Pilchards and
fish with floaters early morning or into the dark, This is the ideal time
for Tailor and it is fishing well on both tides.
I have also caught
a few Tailor trolling along the Container wall but only small numbers
this week and I had to work for them, They are feeding down deep on larger
baits.
Trevally are still
in great numbers, I have found the container wall one of the more reliable
spots, Prawns or Nippers are the bait to use.
Leatherjackets are
around most of the poles in Botany Bay fish the bottom with Squid or Prawns.
SCOTTY LYONS REPORT
Botany Bay and Port Hacking River.
Leatherjacket are moving around the Bay and the Port Hacking just fish
around structure for best results.
Trevally are still the number one fish to target in Botany Bay and the
Container Wall is the number one spot, The Drums in the middle or the
Oil Wharf are both worth a shot.
Tailor are starting to show again and I have found that trolling is the
key to finding them as they are feeding deep, Yarra bay and the Third
runway are two spots that I have caught a few Tailor.
The Rock fishing last week produce a few Luderick for Jeff a long time
customer of mine Down south.
He explain to my father that he left them biting so Dad move onto the
platform and landed 11 nice Luderick.
The condition over the last few weeks have been just right for rock fishing
or out in the boat the weather at this time of the year is spot on and
the fishing is right up there.

for this weekend just gone in Botany Bay.
Trevally are on the bite along the Container wall, Nippers or Pilchards
working very well with a little burley needed to help bring them on, The
odd King are still around we hooked one on Saturday on a nipper on light
tackle but lost it in the wall.
Slimy Mackerel are in good numbers around the Drums in the middle of the
Bay and also just off the Oil wharf and good burley trail of Pilchards
is the trick to bring them on the bite, Cubs of Pilchards for bait.
The odd Bream are hanging with the Trevally so try and fish one bait on
the bottom as the bream are down deep along the wall and around the drums.
The water is slowly dropping and winter is here but the fishing is still
great in Botany Bay and should continue.

Lyons Report Botany Bay
This
week has seen plenty of Trevally moving around Botany Bay,I have score
well from the Container wall on a number of trips, They seemed a little
fussy this week as the water is very clear and at time I could see the
Trevally schooling under my boat but they were hard to hook, light tackle
is the trick and Pilchards cubes are catching most of the Trevally.
Spinning the vast flats is a little slow for Flathead so I try the deeper
water just out from the Oil wharf and boated a nice Flathead and a small
Samon fish both were caught on small live baits on the drift.
Large Slimy Mackerel and yellow tail are schooling around the mooring
drums in the middle of the bay this week and a good burley trail of Pilchard
should bring them on the bite.
Trolling for Tailor out of the runway seen us pick up a few solid fish
not in big numbers so you will have to work for them.
Regards Scotty LyonsBotany Bay Report 14.4.05
Trevally are moving around the
Bay again in good numbers as we slide towards winter, The morning are
rather cool but the days are have been good.
This week there is plenty of small Yellow Tail on the bait grounds in
Yarra Bay, I found these little baits tops if you are drifting for Flathead
in the Bay so keep this in mind, There a few Squid also hanging around
in this same area
King have been a little slow this week dew to a little dirty water around
but by Thursday the water was looking good again so the kingies may be
a great chance this coming weekend, Last week we boated a few nice fish
most days around 65cms and a few under size fish as well.
Salmon are a chance around the Container wall try floating a full Pilchard
down the burley trail early morning.
It was great to see Fisheries out and about last week and they stopped
to check most boats catch and they said that quite a few Bream and Flathead
had been caught around the Towra area so this may be a area to try this
weekend, Bream mostly caught on Nippers and the Flathead on Squidgies
spinning the patches.
Good news about the Boat Ramp at Sylvania Waters in the Hawkesbury res
(Hole in the wall) I met Council late last week and there about to start
the ramp it will be widen to 8.5metres with a new floating pontoon and
cleaning table, I pointed out that we need more spots to leave our boat
tied up so I hope they are looking at that I will keep you posted.

Scotty
Lyons Report
Botany Bay is fishing well, Bream and Trevally are to species that are
keeping all keen, Trevally are good size fish and most of the deep water
spots around the Bay with a little burley Most anglers should do well,
My pick of spots for Easter weekend would be Sutherland Point just in
side Kurnell, Nippers or Peeled Prawns should help you bag a feed of fresh
fish, The Drums in the middle of the bay also has Trevally hanging around
as well as the odd stud Flathead of the bottom hear.
Trolling is only scoring a few larger Tailor this week and I have found
that deep diving lures are working for me as the Tailor are feeding a
little deeper.
Flathead My three spots for Easter are Towra Point, Kurnell along Silver
Beach and Yarra Bay and the best time to fish these spots would be first
light as the tide is high early, Colours that caught fish this week are
Red Rump, Silver Fox's and white drop shot all in 100mm size from Squidges.
Easter provides great fishing so try and get out on the water or give
me a call on 0418 169 439.

Botany Bay is showing signs of that the season is trying to kick start
there is heaps of bait moving around and there are Tailor and the odd
Salmon feeding, Port Botany seems the place, Late last week there were
good school of large tailor working Yarra Bay but they had moved by Saturday.
Bream are the most consist species to target at and they are from the
sticks and all the way back to the Captain Cook bridge, Nipper are the
number on bait and you will need the tide to be running as they only seem
to feed in the moving water.
Nail a few nice King over the last week one fish pushing 85cm it nail
a small slimy just of the Container wall around 10.30am on Friday last
week.
Trevally are one species that are a little hard to locate as the water
is rather warm and they seem to prefer the cool water of winter.
Flathead are very steady and spinning with Squdiges on most days has seen
us score a few nice fish, Stand out colours are the colours that you are
using as they catch more fish than the soft plastic in your box.

January report
Scotty Lyons
Botany Bay report
Hope all had a great Christmas and new year because its taken me a little
time to get back in the swing of things, I will try and keep the reports
fresh.
January to forget as fare as the weather and the fishing seemed to follow
suit, Plenty of fish one day and tough the next, King fish are hiding
somewhere in the Bay and we only seem to find small schools not a patch
on last year so far, I think we are in for a late season.
Bream have been the main catch for many anglers over January and into
February the areas that have been fishing well seems to run on the southern
side of the Bay from Towra point to the sticks just out from the oil wharf,
Nippers are by fare the gun bait in my book and fish on a long trace on
the run in or run out tide.
Flathead are also good and spinning with Squidges around Kurnell and the
patches of Towra point worth a try. My pick on colours are Red rump, Green
Tiger, Black opal and Silver Fox all 100mm shads.
Tailor are hit and miss the middle of the Bay there are birds feeding
on bait but the Tailor are there one day but not the next but still worth
a troll in this area.
Fish Hard Scotty Lyons
Mid
December Report
Botany
Bay is on fire and the fishing will only get better as summer rolls on.
The Bay is full of
bait fish, Small Pilchards and the Tailor are right on the job every morning
just as the sun rises the action has been hot and the area that is producing
well is around the Third runway and the area that is between the Runway
and Port Botany, I have found that spinning with small metal lures on
light tackle the best method for this type of fishing if the action is
on the surface keep your lure up on top and if the fish are deep just
allow your lure sink spinning the deeper water, Also Salmon are hang with
the Tailor and about one out of ten fish hooked seems to be a Salmon and
on the light tackle they will work you over providing great sport.
Bream are also on
the job and they will improve as the water warms, Best areas that I have
found over the last few weeks is around the end of the Third runway, Anchor
in the fast run on either the run in or the run out, I found Nippers catching
95% of the fish. Bream fishing over summer is normally very productive.
I find that a long trace of around 1.5 metres, Sinker of about 4 to 5
ball and anchor in about 5metres of water and as long as the water is
moving you are in with a chance.
Spinning for Flathead
is the great stand by, I have found that Squdgies for the last twelve
months have work for me on just about every outing, Now I only spin for
the last hour of each trip between 12pm and 1pm and rarely we miss on
catching a few Flathead so Squdgies are my pick of soft plastics for the
bay.
Kings are just starting
to filter into to our estuaries, Small numbers of smaller fish have been
in the Bay for the last month or so and by now the odd larger fish should
be making a show so gear up as these speed machines are the numbers one
sport fish of our southern estuaries and its great to see them in big
numbers again after the removal of the King fish traps quite a few years
ago, Live Bait or fresh Squid will put you in with a top chance of catching
a Kingie so a little effort may pay of.
Slimy Mackerel are
top fun to catch and around the drums in the middle of the Bay is the
spot as a large school has been holding in this area for a few weeks,
Burley will help to find the fish and pilchard for bait is all you will
need, Try a fresh Slimy filet grilled with a little chili sauce not to
bad and they also make top bait for future trips.
FISH HARD SCOTTY LYONS
SCOTTY FISHING SCHOOL
The school is a class once a month were I explain the fishing rigs and
methods that I use each day when fish around Sydney we then follow this
up with a full day out on the water and this gives each angler a chance
to test the methods that I spoke about in the class room the night before
I have found this method very productive and the feed back from many happy
fishos is test to this.
Gift Vouchers are
a top idea for Christmas, Just give me a call and I will give you all
the details of the class and day on the water.

Late
November Report
Botany Bay is on fire with plenty of action the 26th and 27th and the
28th had us spinning for solid Tailor and a few Salmon, Most of the fish
were feeding between the Third Runway and Port Botany all we needed do
do was drift with the light westerly spinning around the boat and the
hookup came as doubles and triples, The fish are feeding on small Pilchards
about 70mm in lenght so a small chrome or white metal lure was all that
was needed, The action was the same over the three days and lets hope
this continues.
Bream are also worth targeting I fished the Third Runway and scored one
fish to 40cms and a few smaller fish, Spotted other boats landing Bream
most days Nippers or Blood worm are the pick as bait.
Spinning with Squdgies proved a winner on the weekend and Trowa point
kept our anglers keen boating a few nice fish, One around 60cms which
was released, The Bay was a little slow after the rain last month But
its firing now and we should see a few solid weeks ahead, King are still
a little slow in the Bay with only the odd fish caught, Quite a few smaller
fish around should start to fire by the end of the month.
So if you are Keen to get amongst them now is the time so get out there.

Monday saw us spinning at the hot water early for a few Tailor as the

this
is great fishing and these southern Barramundi are great sport fish.
Headed
back into the Bay for the end of the runout tide and try for Bream at
sticks and only score one good fish
before
the water stop running, Time for a little spinning as it was 12pm and
the sun was high and this time of

both
fish were caught on a Squdgies black opal shad and they have been a winner

side of the bay, The Salmon were feeding in the dirty water seem very
interested in small chrome slugs and
the action was fast and thick, At one stage we had a triple hookup with
all Salmon leaping skywards.this
is great fishing and these southern Barramundi are great sport fish.
Headed back into the Bay
for the end of the runout tide and try for Bream at sticks and only score
one good fish before the water stop running, Time for a little spinning
as it was 12pm and the sun was high and this time of the day all was quite
and Flathead are a great target, We caught two good fish one of 60cm and
a 50cm both fish were caught on a Squdgies black opal shad and they have
been a winner for me over the last month. All in all a great day on the
Bay and the fishing is only going to improve as water temperature rises.

Mid
October Report
Botany
Bay over the weekend of the 25th and 26th fished well, On Saturday trolling
seemed a good start and Tailor were on the chew not as thick as a week
ago but still a few nice fish, Score our first legal King which ate a
CD7 Rapala and for the last few weeks there has been a few smaller King
hanging around mixed with the Tailor, Yarra Bay has been the area that
most of the fish are coming from and the early starts are important as
the fish are a little harder once the sun rises.
Bare island on the
turn of the tide produce Trevally and burley was needed as the fish were
a little slow to start, Five fish were kept and a few smaller fish were
released.
Trevally have kept
plenty of anglers happy over the last few weeks and areas that have produced
plenty of Trevally and worth a try over the long weekend would be Container
wall, Bare Island the Oil wharf or the Drums in the middle of the Bay,
Nippers or peeled prawns for bait and Bread, Pilchards and Pellets for
burley.
Spinning with Squdiges
for Flathead is still a little slow but still worth a try, Fore shore
drive and Towra point are two locations that I have caught fish in the
last few weeks.
Sunday saw us just
out the front of the Bay and between Cape banks and Yellow rock the Salmon
school are every 100metres or so they are rather fussy but a well placed
plastic and a slow retrieve help us score a few fish. Small Kings and
Trevally are also hanging under the schools so try and let your jigs sink
deep before a fast retrieve.
Port Hacking is also
fishing well with Tailor in south west arm trolling early morning, Troll
deep diving lures as the fish are hanging in mid water, I found the end
of the arm the more productive spot.
Leatherjackets are
also hanging around and you will find them around most of the structure
in the Port, wharfs, boat moorings and all of the rocky shore lines that
run into deeper water, Nippers or peeled Prawns and Squid fished just
of the bottom on a small hook about a number 10 long shank.
Luderick should provide
plenty of anglers with a little action over the long weekend with good
schools hanging around the Lilli Pilli area, Just anchor of the rocky
shore and fish the run out tide for best results.
The long weekend
is looking good and the fish are about so hit the water for a little action
as there is plenty of different species to target for this time of the
year.
Botany
Bay in August and September most years proves to be the hardest time of
the year to find fish, Water hanging around 14` to 15` and clear as a
Trout stream and on a good day would see most anglers catches pretty lean
and that working at 110%.
August 2004
in Botany Bay in my opinion is showing signs of improvement after they
stop commercial fishing a few years ago, Trevally numbers are mind blowing
at times and the Container wall has been one of the hot spots, Bream are
still hang around mixed with the Trevally and I think the catches of bream
might be higher if there wasn’t so many Trevally they seem a little
faster to the Bait, The bait that reaches the bottom will see you catch
the odd Bream.
Finally
a little rain which coloured the water, which seemed to turn the fish
right on. Sunday the 22nd at 12pm bright sky and anchored at the Oil wharf
just on the turn of the tide with a little Burley it was on, Tailor one
after another this is rare for the middle of the day and we left them
bighting, Trolling around the Bay has also produces plenty of Tailor,
A stud Trevally belted one of the Rapalar CD 7 and had us stumped as to
what it was until the silver 2kg fish was guided to the net, It dwarf
the smaller fish landed at the Container wall earlier.
Flathead
are slow and I think its dew to the amount of work that is being carried
out around the Bay at the moment, Towra point they are rebuilding the
sand bar in front of the freshwater lagoon, Ramsgate to Brighton Beach
new rock walls are going in to stop all the sand from washing away, So
my pick on spots to try around the bay would start at Yarra Bay, Fore
shore drive, Silver beach at Kurnell, spinning with plastic these areas
should see you land the odd fish.
Luderick
are in good numbers in the river and this also applies to the Port Hacking
River at this time of the year, Run out tide seem to be the tide to fish
but you need plenty of good quality Green weed and a good bucket of burley
to keep the fish interested on the bite.
Leatherjackets
are a great standby throughout winter and it’s just a matter of
fishing structure, Port Hacking or in the Bay they are normally reliable
most of the time.
Try any of
the rocky fore shores or public wharfs in Port Hacking, Botany Bay Watts
reef or the Container wall and most of the poles should hold plenty Jackets.
Salmon schools
are starting to show and over the next few weeks we should see plenty
move into the Bay, Let hope so as Salmon on light tackle are great sport,
Bait Bay just of Cronulla is worth a look as Salmon schools hold here
at times just moving along the beach each day.
Now if that’s
the fishing in winter and early spring who knows what might happen this
summer, It should be a ripper.
The fishing
school for next month is full and October there are five spots left so
be quick this includes a full days fishing plus a nights training coarse.
* Gift certificates top idea for Christmas.

REPORT
FOR MID JULY
Botany Bay is still fishing
well with the Container wall one of the better spots with Trevally and
Bream still hanging around and trolling in Yarra Bay producing a few Tailor
and the odd Salmon at times, Fishing over the last week has fired for
the first Three hours and then the rest of the day very slow its like
the tap has been turned off.
Flathead are very slow
and a little hard to fined, Caught two nice Flathead on Tuesday on soft
plastic off Brighton Beach.
Fish south just wide from
Port Hacking on Wednesday caught Trevally, Bonito and Leatherjackets and
Heaps of small Kings a very productive day, Fished Marley Point and a
little further down the coast water temp of 16.
REPORT
FOR EARLY JULY
Tailor are a great chance around Yarra bay
trolling early morning also Salmon have made a show but are a day to day
thing they are a little tough.
Trevally made up most of
the catch on Sunday, Burley was needed and all the fish were caught on
Nippers and Pilchard Cubes, Fishing has slowed a little but there is still
plenty of action to keep most anglers keen its just the cold starts that
are a little tough.
Flathead spinning has only
caught signal fish this week it will take them a little time to adjust
to the cooler water and it means that you have to fine were they are holding
in the Bay. Leather Jackets are still a great chance and will continue
right through winter, Plenty of smaller fish at the moment around the
Container wall.

REPORT
FOR MID MAY
Well what can I say about Botany bay at this time of the year, The fishing
is very consistence with some very good catches most days. The mornings
are rather cool with a light westerly blowing but the days all but a few
have been tops.
The weekend of 7th 8th and 9th fished well, The fishing school hit the
water on the Saturday and in the first hour the boys landed 16 quality
fish, Bream nudging a kg and one Trevally well over a kg great start to
a very productive day all caught from the Container wall on the run-in
tide , Mark and his mate had a great day, Well his to sons out fishes
the old boys boating most the fish in that first hour. Flathead have proved
a little tough of late with all the spots like Towra and the beach front
along Brighton to ramsgate very slow going, Tried the other side of the
bay on the week end on scored five fish and realest two for one hours
fishing now that more like it, Marks son troy lost a good size King right
at the boat to top of the day.
Bonito are still a good chance trolling along the ocean rocks north and
south of the bay, Only smaller run this year but plenty of fun. Leather
jacket are an easy catch just out the front as we found last week out
of the Port hacking they were thick and it was hard to fish for any thing
else as they would move in and steal bait hooks line and sinkers, We boat
most of the Jackets on small Rapala metal slugs jigging under the boat.
The ocean rocks will start to produce soon for Drummer and Luderick as
soon as the westerly winds provide carm conditions.
Just play it safe when fishing the rocks no fish is worth your life.

Febuary 2004
Kings and more Kings, Last
week we landed one fish to 80cms and plenty this week all seem to be around
the 58cm to 65cms but plenty of them.
Trevally are a little patchy but still scoring plenty of quality fish
just have to work a little harder on some days, A good beryl mix of pellets
and bread is needed and fresh baits of peeled prawns and nippers are my
pick of bait to use, Pilchard cubes are fine also and scoring plenty of
fish.
try the oil wharf or Watts reef on the southern side of the Bay or the
container wall and Bare island on the northern side.
Saturday 14.2.04 fisheries catch and release comp on the Bay which was
a great outing and a top effort to all involved.
and plenty of fish and a great mix of species and very few died which
was great. ET filmed the whole comp and join me on the Sunday with two
lucky winners from his show.
Kings first and we score a few nice fish and lost a few, Tevally seemed
a little hungry and we all landed a few fish and then we finished with
Flathead, Three nice fish caught Two about the 50cms and I scored a good
fish of 70cms That was a great way to finish the day.
This show will go to air some time in April and covers the whole weekends
actitives should be interesting.
This is prime time to be fishing Botany Bay and the good fishing should
now continue until May I hope.
Regards Scotty Lyons.

January
Trevally are still our main stand by and since the closer to all netting
in the Bay the Trevally are a great chance all year. Nippers and peeled
prawns and a good beryl trail seem to work well for me, Most spots around
the entrance are worth trying, Bare island, Watts reef and the Container
wall are three spots that I have had results over the past few weeks.
Last week the cold water slowed our fishing down and we found the going
tough and only managed a feed each day, Surface action and the Trevally
just went of the bite Flathead kept us alive.
This week Thursday the 9.1.04 fishing was back to where it should be at
this time of the year and we started the day with a few smaller Tailor
just of Towra point trolling small Rapalas, Second spot was just inside
the Kurnell headland, Beryl and nippers did the job and we found the Trevally
more than willing, Most of the fish were .5kg to 1kg.
Live Yellow tail did the job and two nice King around 65cms were boated
and lost a bigger fish.
Finished the day spinning for Flathead and found it a little slow dew
to the strong north Easters, Landed one fish about 50cm and caught and
realest one about 60cm. All in all a great day on the water.

Strong winds , cold water
, tough fishing , But if you apply some simple rules when fishing around
Sydney you should come home with a nice feed under these tough conditions
.
Luderick are a prime target at this time of the
year and Port hacking is my favorite estuary to fish and the size during
winter is certainly worth the effort.
Plenty of fresh green weed and a good beryl mix
of weed and sand will improve your catch , Look for a spot along the vast
rock shore lines that surround the port , I prefer spots that has good
water run , most of these spots are found along the main channel of the
port from Turriel point to Lilli Pilli point or Deer park to the mouth
of South west arm these two locations have produced plenty of Luderick
for me over the past few years .
Botany has plenty of spots
like the Container wall , Sutherland point on the run out tide , The rock
walls at Kurnell along Silver beach , The Captain cook bridge is also
a favorite spot and many other bridges will produce plenty of Luderick
if a little effort is applied in having the right bait and berly.
Leather Jackets will hold in the same areas that
you find Luderick its just a matter of changing the rig and bait to suit.
A simple rig that allows you to fish the bottom
is all you need and Peeled Prawns for bait , Most jetties and Mariners
will have a healthy supply of Leather Jackets and Luderick this giving
the land based angler plenty of chances to bag a feed Its just a matter
of grabbing the street directory and deciding on a location to fish.
Flathead are also worth
a go and there are plenty of spots that the land based angler has easy
access to , Spots like the sand flats of Maianbar , Deeban spit and the
mouth of Gunnamatta bay in Port Hacking , Try the beach along Brighton
le sands or Silver beach at Kurnell all you need is a hand full of soft
plastics , Small flick stick and simply walk the beach casting as you
go this is a top way to spend a few hours.
Trevally are in great numbers
at the moment in Botany bay most spots around Structure are fishing well
, Berley is needed to bring them on the bite then fish down the trail
with Peeled Prawns or Nippers or even small soft plastic are scoring well.
So this should give you some sort of idea of what
to target to help you catch a feed during you next day on the water over
the next month or so.
Previous Report
The fishing in June has been rather good with plenty of Trevally
and Flathead and Tailor a great target after dark around most structure
through out the bay.
It pays to be out on the water early as some days the fishing is red hot
just before the sun rises and slowly tapers of and the rest of the day
is spent working hard to locate fish.
Tailor are responding well to chopped philchard trail just on first light
or small chrome lures cast around the same area , I have found the odd
Bream will move in on the Pilchard trail so it pays to fish the bottom
as well as the floaters for Tailor ,Double your chances as you may need
it at this time of the year as the water temp drops.
Trevally are great sport on light tackle and plenty of spots are firing
, But no rush as on most days I have found the Trevally respond to a good
berly trail after sun up and will bite into the day if you are able to
fine them , Peeled Prawns or Nipper in my opinion are the gun bait and
fish into a berly trail.
Winter time is also a top time to target Flathead on soft plastic lures
, And we are catching plenty of quality fish this should continue all
through winter.
Previous Report
Mud , Well that how its been for about a fortnight
after all the rain and the fishing has slowed , Just before the rain the
fishing was at its best with King fish , Bream and Trevally making up
the major part of our catch and the soft plastics scoring plenty Dusky
Flathead around Towra point .
The weekend of the 24 , 25 of May cleared enough
to hit the water and the fishing on the Saturday proved rather good ,
The day started at the drums in the middle of the Bay looking for Tailor
or Bream , After a slow start and no Tailor and only one Bream we found
a few Tevally on the Bottom as well as plenty of large Yellow Tail , Which
a few were turn into bait strips for Flathead or Trevally.
Trolling along the container wall produced a nice
Tailor as we head towards the Bait grounds ,
After filling our tank with lolly pop size Yellow
Tail ideal for Kings or Flathead , Bare island was our next spot to try
as the tide was dead low and it was the ideal time to anchor up and fish
the start of the run up tide.
Trevally responded well to a beryl trail of pellets
and chopped pilchards and we could of filled the boat .
King fish seemed to have moved off with all the
dirty water that has pushed out of the Bay and we may have to weight until
next year to battle the mighty King of the Bay again.
On the Sunday the Bream seemed a little better and
we found them mixed in with the Trevally , The Trevally are rather small
run and you may have to move around to find larger Trevally , I have found
that the entrance of the Bay from the container wall and across to the
Oil wharf and east of these to spots has fished the best due to the dirty
water , But look out as the water clears the fishing may explode .

Well the end of the heat has mixed days on the water
, Out on Botany bay Ive found the fishing to be great one day and the
next day you are working hard and covering plenty of water to find your
fish.
Spots that are worth a try over the next month are the Container wall
around Molineaux point also Watts reef and Bare island and Yarra bay and
the oil wharf on a runout tide , All these spots are great for Trevally
and they should come into there own as we head towards winter and if summer
is any thing to go off we all should be catching plenty of Trevally through
winter , Hopefully the size will increase as they are smaller fish at
the moment with only the odd better fish being caught
Berly and fresh bait of nippers or peeled Prawns should work fine or fresh
strips of Slimmy or Yellow tail are producing well.
Kings are still in good numbers in the Bay and a few rippers have been
caught and lost over the last month and if you are fishing for Trevally
around the spots listed above it would be worth while hanging the odd
live Yellow tail or fresh Squid over the side of your boat for a King.
Bream are very slow this year and I hope we have a late run over the vast
flats of the Bay , Areas worth trying are the sticks , 3rd Runway , Old
runway and wide of Towra point , Nippers or Blood worms fished on a long
trace is the proven method here.
Flathead and the mighty Soft plastics why fish with any thing else as
these little ripper are catching fish just about each time we are on the
water , Only last week 30mintues spinning with plastic one angler caught
three Flathead and one solid Tailor on Squidgy , They are working well
at the moment , But be aware of the toothy little Leatherjackets as they
will eat your plastic as fast as you can cast to them , If you find Leatherjackets
when spinning for Flathead just move about 100m and try again.
Port hacking is fishing well with some quality Bream caught along most
of the sand flats as well as a few good Whiting , Most fish are taking
Nipper fished on a long trace , Peak times to fish are with a high tide
around 8am this will allow you to fish two hours on the run up tide and
two hours on the run out or late afternoon apply the same idea and you
should find a feed .
Live baits fished back into deeper water are a good chance for a King
fish or a Jew fish as the sun sets , Areas worth trying are South west
arm , Yowie bay , Gymea bay if you are targeting Jew fish after dark try
long strips of Squid as well as your live baits.
Leatherjackets are a good bet along many of the rocky fore shore that
surround the port , Try a peace of peeled prawn or Squid fish close to
the bottom for best results.
Luderick have been thick in the port all you need is good quality green
weed and plenty of berly and fish areas like Turriel point or Hungry point
also the rocky points at the entrance to Yowie bay would be a great spot
to try , Run in or run out should produce a few fish from these spots.

Summer, Warm weather plenty
of fish, What more could one ask for , just a few days on the water with
out the wind would be great.
Botany Bay through out
summer will repay you well if you get out there early as the surface action
is well on its way as the sun starts to rise. Salmon and Tailor are keeping
most anglers happy on the surface and below the surface action you will
find by allowing your lure to sink plenty of Trevally , Slimy mackerel
and the odd Flathead if your lure hits the bottom , Most mornings this
red hot bite starts tapering of around 9am , But may be extended due to
cloud cover or the tide on some days.
After a very productive
morning of casting small chrome lures and charging around from school
to school its off to target live baits for chasing the mighty Kingfish
of the bay. You should find small plenty Yellow tail around areas like
Watts reef, the end of the container wall in Yarra bay as well as the
other side of the Container wall near the bulk storage tanks in about
three metres of water. Plenty of berly should do the job in find yellow
tail.
For Kings try any spot
in the bay that’s around structure or reef , Try Watts reef , Bare
island , Container wall , Henry head , Cape banks also the Kurnell headlands
is worth a shot , Most fish are ranging between 2kgs and up to 6kgs on
most trips. Only a week ago we boated a top fish of 10kg!
While fishing for Kingfish
around all of these spot we are catching plenty of Trevally and the odd
Bream on peeled prawns and nippers fished back into a berly trail.
Still waiting on the summer
run of Bream to heat up , We are only catching fish every second day at
the moment , Try the sticks and all the way back down the bay towards
the third runway. You will find fish if you move around and nipper or
blood worms are the go as bait.
Still catching plenty of
Flathead around all the sandy flats in the bay on the soft plastics ,
Try the new Squidgys , I am finding the gold or the white peal are working
well for me on most days , Also the white pear Sliders in a four inch
is a deadly soft plastic all the time , Slider has a few new colours out
worth taking a look at .
Some good reports of Jewfish
turning up around the bridges throughout the Georges river. Most fish
seem to be around the 3kgs and up to 7kgs with the odd unstoppable.
Good bait are live Yellow
tail , Fresh strip baits of mullet or Tailor and Squid strips. Most fish
seem to be caught after dark.
PORT HACKING RIVER
Summers night are best
spent drifting the many sand flats throughout the port targeting the stud
Bream and Whiting that feed across the shallows after dark.
I find my self on the water
just as the sun is sinking with a small amount of live nippers , High
tide around 9pm this should give you around three hours of quality drifting
, Or you may wish to walk the flats as most fish are caught in only about
.5 to 1metre of water , Try the Maianbar flats , Darook park just inside
Gunnamatta bay , Simpsons bay just out of Bonnie vale , These three spots
have produced many fish over the last five years for me and should be
producing well now.
Leather jacket are a good
old stand by at any time of the year in the Port Hacking and you should
be able to find them around structure throughout the Port , Most of the
public wharfs are a great place to start looking , Peeled prawns fished
on a small long shank hook and weighted to suit the tidal flow should
do the trick. Plenty of luderick are hanging around the entrance try the
rocks along start of Jibbon beach for the land based anglers, Also plenty
of luderick are around the coastal rock just out of the Port and down
through the Royal National park.
Early morning drifting
Simpsons bay, Spinning with soft plastics should find a few Flathead.
Try anchoring in the same area and fishing the run in tide for bream and
whiting with nippers or Blood worms at this time of the year.
For surface action a short
run into Bait bay early morning should find the odd school of Salmon and
Tailor , Keep an eye out for small schools of Bonito which should turn
up soon.
