Hi Guys
I was just wondering whats so special about Fireline, is it just the quality makes it stronger, shred free, tangle free etc? In Big W a reel of this costs over $27 compared to around $5 for Daiwa. Is it worth the extra money?
Also what's your opinions on the new bright pink Fireline?
thanks
Sean

What Daiwa braid costs $5?

Fireline isn't that special, it's just another fused line really, there's plenty of similar products around. It does get expensive when you need to repsool a few reels every month or so, and it's a pain to break in new stuff too. My only gripe with Fireline is that they still don't do 4lb pink in 1000m spools,, that's save me some dosh.

As for the colour, it's personal preference, I fish the pink stuff on all my bream outfits because it's easier to see.

Swoffa, it wasn't braid for $5, it was the standard Daiwa mono. I was really just asking, as a learner, what makes the Fireline so good (or expensive at least).
What sort of line and gear would you recommend for flathead in North Harbour?

Fused and braided lines have a lot of advantages over mono line for many fishing applications, especially for lure fishing. Braid has a much smaller diameter than the equivilent breaking strain mono, allowing for more line on the spool and longer casts due to less air resistance. Also, braid has no stretch so you can control the fish a lot better around structure.

Are you chasing the flatties on bait or lures?

Andrew, I intend using bait for the flatties. I'm open to suggestions. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

The line won't matter too much with bait, 6-8lb mono will work fine if you don't want to spend the extra money to get braid.
If you want to have a go at the flatties with plastics then a braided line will be a lot easier to fish in that it will cast better and sink faster.

cheers Andrew.
What about bait. Would you even attempt frozen pillies, prawn, whitebait, or what live bait do you suggest?

Asking Andrew about bait is akin to swearing at him!

Pillies and white are good for Flatties. best live bait would have to be a poddy mullet, or a small yakka.

Flatties will take most baits, they're not fussy. You've all heard about my flatties on cigarrete butts session.
