mate good luck with it....you are most probably trying something that is hard to learn...as in fly fishing....alot to learn about it.....
maybe there is a few fly fishos in here that help you but there is alot to know about it....
i suggest you get out and try fishing with rods or hand lines and get to know a few fishing tricks first:luck:

Have a look here they hold classes for Fly fisherman on weekends, they can teach you etc.
A good palce to try is Narrabeen Lakes, for Bream and Mullet.
All the best.
Oh and Welcome to the site Jason.

you can buy a starter pack from a bait and tackle shop which has a rod, reel, line and some flys

Yep as Wayneo has said, your jumping in the deep end. I've been fishing for over twenty years and I cant just pick a fly rod up and be proficient. Ive had a fly rod for about four years and am still a bit of a hack! Simply becuase I dont practice. I know a fella who is a mad fly fisherman he'll hook you up with everything from a 500g flathhead to a 5kg kingfish. I once came up beside him in Broken bay to see him throwing a monster fly at a 6ft whaler shark! Crazy!
Check Justin out, he runs a very professional charter and is very affordable.

I'm with Kamil on this, out the back of the lake, wade out and you haven't got any bush to get tangled with behind you. You'll know what I mean as soon as you try! Bread flies are great for the mullet & bream mixed in with bread burley. As some of the other guys suggest - get some tuition!
Good Luck.

hmmm, if fly fishing is out of reach, then what do you guys know of deep sea fishing?
i was talking to a friend who said that at sydney harbour you can rent out a boat and go deep sea fishing? supposed to be easy?

They r callled boab boats i think, big red things - cost about $275 for the day plus fuel, but deep sea fishing aint easy and you can get yourself in a lot of trouble if you have no experience out there. People die every year offshore.
There is trailerboathire.com.au which r good for the harbour or pittwater which is a good start,,,, - or rose bay boat hire on weekends for the harbour too.
But the best bet is to take a charter out for the day and learn a bit from them before stepping out on your own!
