Hey guys, quick report for all. Went offshore yesterday - BOM said 5-10knots and 15-20 degrees but at daybreak it was more like 5-10 dgrees and 15-20 knots. Anyway water temps well down, just over 19.5, and dollies gone again for another year but drift fishing for dinner pretty productive. Drifted off curly in about 40-50 metres with a bit of striped tuna and a few pillies 4 bait. Nothing much from first light till sunup then bang bang bang - some medium sized snapps and a few nice marble flatties, and even a couple of monster flying gurnard. Those gurnards r so pretty with their wicked coloured wings and little walking legs, and sort of didnt want to keep any but then they r soooo tasty and this was a great eating size so just kept 1.
Anyway good day, and was back in with a feed by 10am.

yeah i try not to take too many cos they r so nice to watch if you see them in their element, and one of the few fish that have legs which look pretty cool and weird, ...... but they do taste good.....
Dont confuse them with a seargent baker tho!! :rolling laughter:

Yeah its funny the bakers also taste good but its just theyve got a double rib cage so they're so hard to eat. But arent there some massive ones around. I reckon almost everyone throws em back!!

Nice mixed bag.

I've never kept a Gurnard. Are they really that nice?
Jo, my dad went out on a charter with the fishing clun one time and he brought one back.
