Thats pretty rough Pip, maybe you're better off getting the motor fixed elsewhere and copping the costs, what kind of person would organise a dodgy mechanic to fix an outboard that if something goes wrong could put yourself and possibly your loved ones at risk. No offence meant to you Wayno or your mate but geez stuff like that really is crap.
Might be worth you giving Arizona a call mate, get a quote on fixing your motor and then weigh up your options fix or re-power?
Either way good luck mate and you could always buy some oars for this weekend:rolleyes: :rolling laughter:

Hey all, well what Wayneo has written above is true and I was not really a happy camper, but it has all worked out well. I won't recomend the mobile mechanic above that mucked me around but I will recomend Family Boats at Blacktown. I took my boat there to the head service man who's name is Paul and he fixed Pips motor and was very helpfull. He ran through everything with me and I felt really comfortable. It is hard to find a mechanic you trust these days!! Hopefully I will be out this weekend, fingers crossed......
Sorry to hear about all that.
I have heard from others on another site that he is quite good??? Maybe cause he is the sponsor of that site and looks after the members on there, but he should look after everyone equally if they want a good name and business, but enough of that and we wont go there.
Glad it worked out good for you in the end.
My suggestion as to a Mechanic is Dave Geddes from BluePacific Marine in Dural, he is the best mechanic i know by far, he literally dreams about boats in his sleep! He is the most knowledgable and helpful guy i have ever met, he did his apprenticeship at Hunts Marine and opened his own business at Dural and is extremely popular. He has the contract with the Navy to some extent if that says something, i know he would be a fair way for some people, but he is the best i know and he will help you more than anyone. Next to the Caltex at Dural at the corner of Galston Rd. 9651 3980

Thats tops pip, I'm stoked for you....mate enjoy the weekend and good luck. I hope you enjoy your boat and fingers crossed you come home from your first trip with some fish for dinner!:luck: :ohhh yeah:
I am heading out this weekend too with my mates and this time the owner is coming out, unfortunately he is still waiting for time to get his lisence but its awesome just to get onto the water. :red party:
We will be heading out from Rose Bay Public Wharf at around 5.30am Sunday hopefully returning with some tales to tell, some photos and a fish or two to eat!:ohhh yeah: Then a :beerchug: or two to celebrate a great day on the water!

have to agree with you there mate. That shop is run so proffessionally. Its hard to take my rig out there for a service, but I think if its organised properly dave will let you wait and have youback on the way in no time.
Plus he is the man when it comes to Suzuki's as far as i know.
Cheers

That's the only place I take mine, he has the same boat as me so he must be very smart!:headbang:
If you need a mobile mechanic in Sydney the guy i use is Cash from Aquamarine Mobile.
TOp bloke who i got to service my motor a few years back after getting stuff around like pipperty did by other mechanics....
Cash has since done a heap of work on my boat and he has met me at the ramp twice on a sunday when my mates boats have broken down during a fishing trip...how many mechanics do you know who will actually come down to the water and fix your boat there.........
Good service is everything and i have never used BB marine before so i dont know how he is but i know aquamarine is awesome...and he is mobile...saves you having to drop the boat off

Hey Oz, you want to put his number up I'm sure some fellas would be keen to have it on them just in case they need some reliable on-water service.

Did a job on my buddies motor ,which later seized up,He got motor fixed up by
Sea Sea marine, only to be told, that bret had used old rings n other things on the out board?????????????

Unless your mate owned a cat ??
Not the case I brought that one up in conversation the other week when I returned an outboard trolley only one he ever came actoss like that was on a cat outboard went back to Blakes Marine under warranty.
2nd hand rings were used & very evident cause a short time later boat sank & motors were pulled apart.
Think what some of you guys need to realise is peeps dont like paying money to get things fixed & will authorise the use of 2nd hand parts to save a few bucks.
Then when things break down again have a big bitch about how bad the mechanic was & how they got ripped off.
Personally I would never use a Mobile Mechanic not that they are hopeless more a case they cant possibly perform 100% working out of the back of a van.
No way they can carry parts etc being a solo operation spend most of their time on the phone or on the road picking up parts if required & believe me you're getting billed for that.
If it's just a quick service change of oils, plugs etc thats not bad they'll carry that gear but for anything else 4get it.
As far as the opening post goes well from how I read into it motor wasn't tuning correctly the mech agreed to service the carby's & did so as agreed.
Then mentioned there were other probs with the motor & took off well there's always 2 sides to story & I only heard one.
For starters who was paying for the job to be done ?
Was it this Tommy guy or Pip ?
Tell you what I wouldn't be touching anything unless it was confirmed who was paying & I was garaunteed of payment.
It's easy to bad mouth peeps & pass on 2nd hand info but if I were any of you guys I'd be taking my boats to an adress to get serviced not a mobile guy.
Another thing dont let them just go all out & do whatever they want to do to the outboard always get a price up front & know what your getting
Dont authorise any works outside the agreemant without being quoted & consulted 1st this way you wont get any nasty surprises & it will stop any arguements.
