G'day,

Headed up to the wonderfull Clarence RIver at Yamba for 2 weeks, stayed in a unit overlooking the rocks at Craigmore. Walk to the beach, and rock fishing. Had absolute cracker weather and went to the beach every day.

Took some blackfish gear for the rocks and the tinny and estuary fishing gear.

Had three outings on the stones, all chasing blackfish, the conditions were good, but the fish were quiet, very clear water made the fishing very difficult, but I did end up with half a dozen kilo plus fish. At two fish per outing, that's pretty unusually slow summer fishing up there. As an aside, I did see some very nice whiting coming from the Pippie Beach rocks while I was rock fishing, a fairly reliable whiting spot when the weather is the North-East pattern.

Had three outings on the river. Fished the back country between Oyster channel and Romiaka bridge for flatties the first day, managed a string of 30 cm flatties but nothing bigger, fished the run out for a string of just undersize whiting as well.

Next trip was to Oyster channel bridge on the last of the run out, fished softies for jew/flatties. Caught one beautiful flathead somewhere between 70-80 cm. Took a pearl bass minnow on the drop. Lost a nice fish which i suspect may have been a jack around the pylons as well, but never saw any clolour, so could have been anything.

Last trip was a day fishing between Romiaka bridge and the Lake, caught a heap of undersize flatties on hard bodies and plastics, and then we caught a couple of nice keepers, which was great, the point of the outing being to get my nephew to catch a fish to take home.

So, pretty quiet fishing, but enough fish to keep it interesting. Didn't really have time to fish the main river, apparently locals were pulling some nice flathead from around the river wall, also reports of school jew around the bridges, but the one day I tried, the boat next to me got a jewie donut as well, and he was using herring. GOing up again in July for a purely fishing trip, so should be good.

G'day Joe,

Yeah, he caught a nice keeper, casting a tilsan barra in about 4 foot of water. We caught a lot of small flatties that day, he ended up with around 7 all on lures, one was the keeper, plus another one that dropped off at the net. I was using a new environet that I got for christmas. The bad news is that they are just as crap as any other net when it comes to trebles
