My rebuilt Quintrex fishabout Mk II.

wasn't much when I got it, but a year of completely stripping and a full rebuild was capped off with a 2006 Etec 50. Minn Kota is next.

at Glenbawn cabins, and Manning Pt.

NOTE: Will trade for Pro-strike or Skeeter Sx 90 :D

With colours like that, you can't hide!:rolleyes:

Did you do the grey coloured bars with paint or striping?

Elvis
23-05-06, 06:03 PM
tell me about it, I'm not too worried about it being stolen either.

One the downside, I stand out like dogs balls (good for potential sponsors though) a bloke up one of the creeks got so fed up with me hooning past his house, he came out and took my picture one day. Ballsy bloke, however I do now go slow past his house.

The stripes are painted on, but the name and fish graphic (there are matching ones on the inside) are stickers.

my pride and joy......... first day i got it at the ramp waiting to get it in the water.
this was november last year and i am still waiting on parts for it from the orginal order. Not happy about that but the boat it self goes great

That Triton is rubbish, what a hopeless boat, looks really slow too....

..... wanna swap ? :D ;)

is that a 150 on the back mate ?

mithendore
25-05-06, 07:50 AM
it's got a 115 optimax....which goes fast enought for me. there are quicker boats on the water then mine but it goes around the 84km per mark which when your in a boat on the water is rather fast.

i have upgraded the electric on the front to a Motor Guide PTSv 82 pound since that photo too.............

25-05-06, 07:37 PM
Jason , if your still waiting for parts for it that were asked about on order or back when you picked it up you need to BARK LOUDER mate perticularly if it was meant to be there or its already paid for.
Tritons are great but they always have needed to pick up thier buyers support area, don't let it slide because thier comittment to you should not stop at delivery, No they dont have to bend over for you but they have the avenues to get you what you need and should help wherever they can. costomer relations goes a long way.
That goes for anyone sales, not just boats.

mithendore
30-05-06, 02:21 PM
i have a list of about 40 emails and lost count of the phone calls asking for my parts.

department of fair trading have stepped in as i was not getting anywhere with ron woodliegh form triton. Next step is the tibunial which is in the works now. He did supply more parts again a couple of weeks ago when the department of fair trading called him but still waiting.

What he doesnt relise is that i have cost him the sales of at least 2 boats that i know off, so for the $500 worth of parts he still owes me it has cost him $80,000 in boat sales so i think he is a little worse off. i cant bag the boat as its great but the service is crap.

all i can hope for is to win the trip to the USA and let triton know what is going on over here with there distribtor but the way i am fishing at the moment i dont think i will make it. Might just have to pay to fly over there and do some site seeing while i am there

mithendore

Elvis
30-05-06, 02:55 PM
Thats pathetic. you'd think with a new company trying to establish a name, and compete against Nitro, Skeeter etc, they'd be going all out to get a good rep going.
hope it works out for you mithendore

sydfish
30-05-06, 02:59 PM
Sounds like a familiar story... I know of at least one other who waited at least 6 months from when he paid over 10k deposit until he saw his boat.

I have heard it on the grapevine that it only takes 6 to 8 weeks to get one from the USA. All complete with Tritons US after sales service, ie straight away. For considerably less than than the retail price here. Just add the 2 or 3 grand for shipping.
Amazing that they can give quicker and better service from the otherside of the world than from here  .

mithendore
31-05-06, 01:38 PM
The 2 guys i spoke about earlier looked at doing that but the problem was it seemed to be not saving much, a couple of grand when you include the derlivery (dependant on what model you want of course) but the main problem is the warrenty etc on the boat and motor will be for over in the USA not Australia, so if something goes wrong its a little harder to send it back for repair.

simple solutions is buy a skeeter or nitro and get looked after. i love the triton but if i had my time again i would have got a skeeter if i was going to have this many problems. I got a rather good deal for the boat, thats why i went with the triton.

What problems have you had (what parts needed replacing).

31-05-06, 09:06 PM
Your right, Tritons are a great boat, Hell nearly all the fiberglass US bass boats & the Aussie ones are, I'm sure the probs in Aus with triton sales & service will come good, just a shame the early days may cost them. & your right about Skeeter Andrew has definately got his sh1t sorted, very smooth operation, it's a pitty Haine's prostrike(in Al's one on w/end, AWSOME ride) just seem to price themselves out a bit.

mithendore
01-06-06, 09:14 AM
Nothing wrong with haines, they are one of the best hulls around, but as you said just that little bit to pricey compared to the others.

and in regards to what i missing i should fill you in on the story a little bit.

placed order in october for boat and was told should be here for the final round last year. Didnt arrive untill 2 weeks after this so there was my first disapointment. Took it out for a drive first day i got it and it took about 400m to get up to a plain (wrong pitch on prop) which got sorted out rather quickley by triton for the grandfinal last year.
but after closer inspection i discovered the following parts missing that i had paid for.
sounder in bow
tranducer for trolling motor
mounting of sounder in dash was terrible
gas struts
keel guard
lights in rod lockers
boat rego
live well timer
temp sensor for sounder didnt work
speedo didnt work
now i got these parts in dribs and drabs and i am still waiting on the lights. and yes i also had the timer turn up and it didnt work and i had to install all these parts my self as he wouldnt help me out there either.

its just about right now but just really disapointing as the boat is great but he asks for way to much diposit and his after sales service is crap.

Hi Bass Flicker,
it started life as a 470 Haines SeaQuell, then a mate of mine did some firbeglassing mods it's now 520 with 12inch gunnels and a mini tunnel, that combined with the trim tabs allows it to run around 6inch of water at full noise.
Yes it's very stable and very fast:smiile:. it was put together for barra fishing in FNQ. It's pushed by a 90hp Tohatsu.

Tom. I am selling her as it has too much cabin and not enough fishing room out the back, thought of chopping a couple of foot off the cab, but a lot of work involved. It was good to chase the marlin with, but those days are gone for me now.
It is an awsome boat for the hairtail up in Waratah bay in the middle of winter:headbang: , just close the cab doors, put the heater on and your warm as toast, till you have to bring in a fish, then you gotta go out into the cold:icy: .

Stef. On the water mate she is an absolute dream, for a smallish game boat only 23' she is steel and rides like a much larger vessel, the 351 pushers her along around 25 knots comfortably.
But take her out of the water and you have a monster on your hands.
I will be asking around $ 23,000 for her.

gazza
02-07-07, 09:49 PM
Actually i had them made at a fab shop,i worked out how long, wide ,deep i wanted them and he folded them for me.They fit between two ribs exact and were tac welded in place(out of marine grade alum)one i put a hinged lid on the other is open.I painted them with etch primer first then white with a tin of touch up paint(the same as quintrex colour)from my quintrex dealer the black speckle was done with a piece of nylon rope that i frayed open and simply dabbed it on.The cost of the pockets was about $30 each. Also a little rubber around the top to get rid of any sharp edges(dont forget you dont need any back in the pockets the back is the hull)

Tom. Nice boat mate. Just one tip though. Shorten that safety chain up a couple of links.

Try this little test, unhitch the trailer from the tow bar but leave the chain connected as you have it there, now drop the trailer and I bet it hits the road.
Now imagine this happening at 100 kph and imagine what is going to happen to your boat and trailer.
Shorten the chain so that when it is suspender on the safety chain, the trailer is still clear of the road.

It wouldn't hurt for all members to look at their safety chains and insure they are not too long.
If you have double safety chains, they should be crossed so if the trailer happened to come adrift from the tow ball the trailer would fall onto the chains before touching the road.

Tom your dads boat is AWESOME, only wished my dad had a boat that good when I was your age.....come to think of it my dad was not even interested in boats or fishing back then, did not stop me though, ahh well, PBM.
Frank, thanks for that tip, I am sure that nearly all those reading this would not had of thought of that, me included, and had of had one or two get loose over the years I can see the wisdom there. Goes to show we all have more to learn every day

Kris. I haven't had it happen to me. I build trailers part time and fix & generally play around with them a lot.
Most manufacturers these days choose poor locations for mounting their safety chains and tow bar makers don't think about where to put their attatchment device, they are all wrong. The chain should be as close to the tow ball as possible. These days it's under the car somewhere and gives the chain no chance of doing it's job.

Gday ALL.

My boat is a 3.75 Quintrex Dart,powered by a 15 HP Merc..

I bought the boat all brand new at Nowra Marine in 2002,,its fitted out with a 27 meg radio, swivel seats..

I WILL get a few pix of it {if & when} it stops raining and show ya all..

I have a name on it which is "WHOREMOAN".{yes my wife gets a few weird looks when we are putting it in the water too}..

I WILL get a pic of it with the name "Whoremoan " on it as i had thought i had a pic of it WITH the name but havent..

Its a 3.75 Quintrex Dart with a 15hp Merc on it and NOW has a 27 Meg radio & swivel seats..{all bought brand new in 2002}..

Reason why i have a radio in it,as i occasionally take it out off Kiama,,weather pending of course..

Yeah Thanx Quinnie..

YES !! i WILL get further pix of the boat soon..

2 Things;

1}..The pink stripe came on the boat NEW from Quintrex,,wasnt happy been pink,,but its grown on me and you,ll be surprised on how many people comment on it on how good it looks as i keep it POLISHED EVERY WINTER,,{that brown water mark you can see is NO LONGER on it}i was going thru a lazy period..

2}As i said in 1...EVERY winter i polish it IN n OUT and yes it gets soaped washed after EVERY use,,{trailer included},,,,bought it all brand new back in 2002 and been a EX Car detailer,,i like my boat to ALWAYS look new, pity i dont have the same respect for the car though,,,but we wont go there,,its only a VX Commodore.

Heya Quinnie..

Yeah the Merc is as i said a 15hp and its excellent on the fuel,,,with just me in it,,,i weigh an embarrasing 105kg and it hammers along,,,full throttle and its leaving the water over the slightest wave,,i mainly run it only HALF throttle as thats PLENTY even with 2 in it..

I take it off Kiama around to Bombo beach and drift for the flatties or TROLL around out off the Blowhole down to Gerringong and say roughly 1 km off shore,,,its pretty GREAT boat for a 12 footer..

I am a member of the Shoalhaven Marine Rescue Association too,,as a VOLUNTEER Skipper and YES i know what the boat of MINE can handle and i dont take RISKS,,ive seen what happens and i have ALL the safety gear toin MY BOAT {V-sheet,,radio,,Epirb,,flares etc.}.

Look forward on seeing your boat too..

Finnaly took some pictures of the boat...
ill run you guys through what i have done so far and what i still need to do.
I removed 3 of the swivel seats so i can have a casting platform at the front and the one at the back was removed so it wouldnt get in the way of the motor arm.
I have put on the fisheries stickers and the SFF sticker.
I have placed an anchor roller thing there so its easier to get the anchor up and so it doesnt scratch the boat.
What i need to do now is fix up the trailer, the springs have lots of rust and the bearings need to be done, no lose nuts in the hub this time! Im looking at elerctric motors and sounders but before i do that i need to get a rectifier and a deep cycle marine battery in there.
cheers:headbang:

Dog Catcher
29-10-07, 10:39 PM
Not must you can do about the rust on the axle

But here's a couple of tips 4 U & I would adress them

* anchor well dont leave anchor in there like that get some carpet & line alloy skin anchor will rub & wear

* If thats ply behind the motor get rid of it ply will hold moisture & eventually cause corrosion on transom replece with nylon & seal underneath.

* remove those stainless rod holders & insulate with teflon or nylon corrosion again

TomMc
30-10-07, 08:10 AM
we had carpet in there but when i took the seats off there was no carpet under them so i used it for where the seats where because it was the same colour and design. I will get a bit of rubber soon and use that for the anchor.
Ive already decided to replace the plywood on the back but its not urgent at the moment so im going to leave it until i have more money.
The stainless rod holders on the side have insulate, so im guessing the ones on the back have insulate under them.

Tom. That's a neat looking package you have there mate, I am proud of you. I was 16 before I got my first boat, a 12' savage with 4 hp Johnson, boy did I do some exploring with that little boat. Think I had it in just about every waterway in and around Sydney in the first 18 months before I moved onto a offshore boat.
I would move the nav lights further in behind the grab rail. Where they are they are prone to damage.

Just taking the piss out of that hairy chappy hr's used to it

As far as your Q goes

No I'm not a fan of them & couldn't ever see myself owning one

I've debated why on a couple of boards now & over it unless someone brings up a ridiculous claim again

nimrod
08-11-07, 10:15 PM
There has been a hell of a lot of talk about them on some sites.
And it's only natural they would be talked about.
When I seen this yellow one and seen what I thought was compartments for putting stuff in I thought they might be coming of age.
There are a few things I like about them and a few things I don't like about them.

Think the reasin they are talked about so much on sites is quite simple poly owners are allways going on the defensive.

And untill recently when the hairy chappy directed me to the polycraft to see for myself.

Well I burst out in laughter & boy did I let them know it finally found out where all the so called personal opinions came from that I'd been reading for so long.

A copy & paste fron the poly manufacturers claims I even started making fun of those claims & one poly owner got offended never to be seen again.

I'm no dummy & have a fait bit of engineering talent & what I read was a bit of a joke.

But if poly owners are happy with there boats good luck to them only time I get involved in any poly conversation is when I read the ridiculous thats when I dig in & really bite.

Another than that I have no probs with the boats themselves & hairy will tell whenever he's asked a non silly Q about the fantastic plastic I've allways answered to best of my knowledge

D C the reason we go on the defensive is because of the crap that is posted about ploys, lets face u have seen it things like they melt in the sun that they will crack and all the rest of the guff.
from an engineering point of view i am willing to listen to u but when u start to talk about the ride and handling of a poly u must fist have been out in one.
P S i do not copy and past from the poly site i have no need to as i have a good working knowledge of my boat.

mate if you whated that boat to come up real good i reakon you should get the boat onto the ground and get all the paint of, even on the bottow of the hull, it best to prolly just repaint the sides of the hull as the ottow is better off having no paint there,

"Storms Rough'n'Ready" will be on the water early next year, Huge thanks to Coops (after shaking his hand I know why he's called Bone Crusher:ohhh yeah: ) and his mate who is selling the boat to me!:ohhh yeah:

Will collect 15ft tinny and trailer early next year and the project will begin....Few things to do to get her on the water-only clean-up/paint/some safety gear/sensible engine/rod holders etc...Little trailer work to do-have welder in the family so easy fix for me..... Looking forward to it and doesn't it all just add to the enjoyment the family and I will get on the maiden voyage.

Best bit the missus approves and I can't wait to get her into her first ever fish!:icon_smile_big:

hi all, Im new to these forums so here is a basic pic of my rig. Will get more once i return from sea.

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/2/web/2174000-2174999/2174015_101_full.jpg

the boat is a rare 4.6M Quintrex Hunter 96 model powered by a 40 Yamaha. Mods inc new large platforms on rear (made by N.B.PropWorks in Cairns welded onto the boat by Viking Marine Taren Point) LOA is now 5.1m, sea dodgers and canopy to be made and fitted soon, VHF Radio, Sony CD player, Lawance Depth sounder, Garmin GPS, twin tanks, lights, etc etc

You will see me out on Port Hacking (more often than not when im home) or down at Sussex inlet.

The tow car is a mazda 3 SP23 with too many mods!

Hope to see some of you out on the water some day

Nice set-up buddy, you gotta lower that car-looks like its been jacked up with whose mags on it-I'm guessin 16 possibly 17in.

Hairy just read your reply....Guess theres two ways to do things-the expensive and easy 'pay for someone else to do it' way and the way I'm gonna do it which so far has cost me bugger all and seen the hull ready for painting, some new power tools in the garage.
Trailer only needs 2 rollers replaced-teflon for the new skids and rego! All trailer parts apart from springs are made by me or taken from a trailer I was given by a mate.
Paint for hull will cost under $100 as advised by Pez-top bloke...Have a contact in Merc for a demo model engine to more than suit my needs.

Rod holders and other fittings have been sourced already through old mates in the industry-just need to get up the coast once I have the time..most expensive bits will be sounder and stainless bolts/nuts/washers, but who cares I'm saving a packet compared to going out and finding the same as what I'm gonna end up with and parting with my hard earned on something I would only want to change anyway.

Once all's complete I get to enjoy my hard work and will be rewarded every time my kids and missus catch a fish from my boat!

Nothin better than having good mates!

Really hope you're gonna ditch the standard shocks and get some Bilstein Gas, had a set of em under the HDT springs on my HDT Statesman and they are great for stiffening up the ride without it becoming too bouncy! Dont need the silly adjustables just the standard yellow gas!

will do pending $$$ looking at Koni or Bilstein Gas - East Coast Suspension is doing the job.
the car already pretty stiff as it has had all sway bars increased from 11mm to 22mm (whiteline)...not to mention a list of mods the length of your arm.

2 Things;
