anybody
Daniel, try metal raiders for Tailor or hard bodies have always worked well. Tailor will just shred your sp's to nothing, in the end you will just realise its not worth spending money on them!

you could try the instant bait produced by Rapala, it is meant to be quite good for species like Snapper, Tailor and Bream etc, and it stays on the hook really well.... Worth trying I say.... but each to their own....

Quinnie, at the top of the page is an icon to do a search for these things you will find many of these questions have been asked and more than thoroughly covered as far as answers go. If you cannot find the answers to your questions or hear of any new products coming out please feel free to post a new thread.
I agree with Kamil, metal lures are the way to go.

i'm hearin ya tom
and powerbait is also a waste of money
Mate if your after some Tailor Bibbed minnows are hard to go by.....we used to clean up catching 40-50 each trip trolling bibbed minnows around...my mate caught 20 tailor up to 50cms near bradleys head using the strike pro bibbed minnows on sunday.
all that fake bait product works, you can seriously catch a fish on just about anything if you take the time to work out how that particular thing may work & then fine tune it. try a tiny peice white plastic shopping bag or coloured wool tied onto a straight shank & troll it, I bet ya get the tailor you are after.:ohhh yeah:

Hate to break it to you guys that powerbait does work, in the paste or pellets trout love it, would almost go so far as to say its better than natural baits for them

The original stuff called catchit (no it didn't come from cats) smelt like vegemite and the only thing I ever caught on it was toadfish. I have used the Ultrabite berley mixed with pillies and old bread(no haji, I'm not talking bout you or your money) and it works well....I still use their burley floats and find theyre great for stuffin pillies in and catching squid with at the rocks with another pillie on my jig. The dvd looked pretty good to me, I would be willing to give it a try, i guess if fish can be fooled by lures and soft plastics why not fish pheromone smelling plasticine like stuff.

Quinnie I thought you hadn't used this stuff before?

Yes guys but the problem with metals is they sink very fast and when the schools of tailor are not feeding on the surface a SP will out fish a slice anyday of the week and actually even why they are feeding on the surface we have had insane sessions on big choppers at lake macquarie using sp's with heavier jig heads.
yes they might trash your sp's but you are landing everyone you hookup to and they are not throwing the hooks. Just what we have found worked previously. Plus its a good way to get rid of your unwanted sp's:lol:
As all the other boys have suggested, you will be suprised what works on most fish. power Bait putty is an awsome bait to use and I have also seen the pics of some hugs whaoo taken from Indonesian waters on trolled 9/0s will a condom blown up and tied to the shank of the hook.
Its what the fish see's that makes them investigate and eat our offerings.
And as for the Catch-it instant bait, well we used to catch a sh*t load of bream and flathead on that stuff at the Entrance. It was a awsome bait.
Cheers

very interesting lee lee:cool-smiley:
Lee i dont usually let me metal slice sink if they are working on the surface, as soon as it hits the water, in fact just before it does hit the water i wind and it skips on the surface back to me and the Tailor cant help themselves, i also do this with tiny hard bodies and they love them, as long as its breaking the surface in one way or another, they will hit it out of curiousity.
but i do know Sp's take their fair share and as you said its a good way to get rid of them if thats wat you want to do!

I have found both surface skipping and deep retrieve work depending on what mood the fish are in. Used to do a lot of spinning on the central coast and early morning/late arvo usually skipping along the surface worked best but once the sun came up the fish liked the lure a little further down, some days we would let the lure sink a few meters before starting to retrieve.
Its all trial and error to work out what the fish will go for.
