View Full Version : Crabbing in greater Sydney/Hawkesbury
Ok.... i consider myself to be of a reasonable quality fisherman, but i just dont know the spots... my Auntie has come over from miami, and i want to take her for a fun day of fishing and crabbing... i have never caught a crab in Sydney, and know of very few reasonable fishing spots... i plan to head out at daybreak tomorrow, and keep it up until nightfall... only problem is having an idea of where to go.
It will be my Auntie and myself on my 14 footer open cabin (70 hp :D:D:D:D)... so the moral is i can go pretty much anywhere from 2 feet of water almost up to the heads (though i am not game enough to venture beyond them
I saw a few Kings come in at Quarantine in Sydney Harbour, a couple around the Western Wedding cake close to Clifton, and I landed one on the western side of The Spit Bridge. Unfortunately mine escaped....even after having its throat cut and neck cracked!:eek:
I got mine on a yakka, but you will do a LOT better if you can raise some squid.

Try dropping witches hats at Rose bay for Blue swimmer crabs.
G'day,
You can use traps below the ramp at roseville, and there are a few mud crabs around that area, anywhere where there is a bit of mud bordering rocks.
Also try Bantry bay for blue swimmers ( using dillies/witches hats) and the shallow ground behind the grotto. Get a map and you'll see some of this stuff there is an exxcellent booked called hooked in paradise available at the newsagents/fishing shops.
Also look at www.

For the regs etc
Tells you the differences between a net/trap etc. Also worth checking out the site re closures.
