View Full Version : Are Hairtail any good to eat?
Noticed the nice swag of Hairtail on the home page. I love my seafood but have never tried/caught these guys so...are they any good on the tooth? I've heard they have a pretty good set of fangs.

There are 10 of us lunatics going up the Hawkesbury next week-end to try and get a few of them.
We hire a houseboat each year, last couple of years we haven't had a look in. This year looks promising.
Yes they are top tucker.

Hairtail are fantastic eating. They are, however, very boney though usually the meat parts from the bones fairly easerly once cooked. One thing to remember when cleaning Hairtail is to grab Scourer (or similar) and scrub the silver off them, if you eat them with the silver on they usually have a fishy taste and arn't all that great.
Those fish on the home page where caught in Cowan. Coal and Candle, Jerusulam, Smiths Creek and any other deep parts of the river are good starting places.
All up I caught 40 that night so if your looking to get into some Hairtail get out there now !
Cheers,
Fletcher
