View Full Version : Pittwater - just a thought?
Hello All,
as you will be aware, Pittwater has been the subject of out of town Pro fishermen who come with their nets and destroy the resident fish population.
At the risk of stating the obvious, these blokes are out of towners, would it be possible that they use forums like this to assess the number and types of fish that people are catching, and whether it's worth them coming to net these waters?
These pros haven't yet been benned from Pittwater (unlike Botany where they have), so let's not give them any information regarding what's going on in Pittwater.
What do you reckon?
Cheers,
Neil.

Hi mate
I am well ahead of you. I dont know if you have noticed or not but I am not giving out locations of where fish can be found anymore.
My last report for my website was last week and that was the first since Dec 8.
I didnt give the pros enough credit, I didnt think that they were smart enough to be able to read.
It is a real shame because I enjoyed watching my customers catch quality fish without waisting time to track them down.
We will not be able to ban these jerks from traveling to Pittwater and raping the area. We may be able to push for them to be banned on the basis of spreading the Caulpera Weed.;)
Fingers crossed.

Hi mate,
yeah I had noticed! The only reason I posted was that I wanted to ensure that as many others got the message as possible as I was seeing reports on other forums, so I have posted on the other forums as well.
No one wants the pros to destroy our fishing! How do we get the message to the authorities about them dragging the Caulprea Weed all over the place?
Can we as individuals report this to someone?
Did the article you were speaking of get published in the Tele? I saw something in the fishing section last Friday...
Cheers,
neil
Whether we communicate about our fishing activity or not, they will do what they do.
Common sense tells you after raping an area give it a year or two to recover and come back and rape that little honey pot again.
Don't let the bastards win by stopping us sharing our successes and not so successful fishing outings.
Don't let those selfish *^%@>>> get away with what they have done.
Better to write to our pols and ministers as well as raise public awareness. Political correctness and media attention is what brings about change.
Now if only kingfish could get to the size of a whale!!!!!!!
Cheers
Martin
PS: Peter I read you newspaper article. Good for you and give it to them in the neck every time.

Hi Neil
We can only write to the DPI and try and get the Estuaries Manager on side.
The Caulpera weed is spread throughout Pittwater and they know it. The fisheries website has a map of affected areas of the river. It is spread throughout the entire river and apparently there is a new department that is apparently looking after the problem.
There answer to the outbreaks is something of a joke. I was told that they feel that the weed is not as big a worry as what was first thought.
I think that they are pushing this barrow now because the answer to the problem is beyond them.
Hi Martin
Mate these travellers will come back sooner than a year or so. They will be back 2 or 3 times more this season because of the fish that they have caught.
We will now be on their monthly run and unless pressure is placed upon them they will keep coming back.
The minister for our beloved sport is actually a farmer and is lucky if he has been fishing more than 5 times in his life. He will not help us because we are not dealing with farm animals and he is on side with the commercial fishos.
Lets go and slay his cows and hall them off to market and tell him its ok because the fence fell over and we captured them on crown land. He can call us travelling farmers which in his eyes should make it ok.
Anyhow I am sorry but I am pretty tight lipped about the fishing in Pittwater now days.
Customers that come out with me will still be shown the areas but they will have to track down the fish on their own.
If you only knew how much of a kick in the guts it is when the bite goes from hot fishing for 3 months and then overnight zero. We are still waiting for the river to get any decent schools of fish and its 2 months after the deed.
If they dont know that there is a bite on then they are only lucky if they stumble upon fish.
All the best and join the fight.

Hi,
I dont fish Pittwater, but feel i needed to add my 2 cents worth!
This is crap (sry), i have read alot of what everyone has to say on this topic and others e.g. marine parks etc.....
I cannot believe that this stupid government of ours (NSW) just sits there with its head.... well lets say in the sand!
I know that singles cant change this but geez, tell me what i need to do to help all those that are effected by this heartless fisho's, I mean I know its their livelihood but cmon!
I live in Penrith, and mainly fish the Hawkesbury,Harbbour & Gerringong so please forgive my ignorance for not fully understanding the implications.
I dont know if it would help but i do know Jackie Kelly, as i'm sure we all know a polly somehow.....all I am saying if it would help let me know
Unfortuneately things like this dont give me much incentive to go and explore another wonderful waterway that we are so lucky to have here in NSW
G'Day Roy, thanks for the support.
I have written to Alex McTaggart (State MP for Pittwater), McDonald (DPI Minister), and the Manly Daily. The letter was printed in the Manly Daily last weekend, I sent it on 22 December, unfortunately before I had all the facts, but the basic priciple is correct.
Yesterday I wrote to Carl Scully & Morris Iemma about the desalination plant -this may not be directly related to Pittwater, but it is related to our waterways:
- river flows will be further reduced to save money rather than turn on the desalination plant.
- concentrations of secondary treated sewage will rise in our rivers by not advocating tertiary treatment to allow the reclamation of water. Because tertiary treatment will not be taking place, plus the river flows will be reduced in times of drought then the sewage concentration will rise.
- reduced flows also mean that any pollution in the river systems will not be pushed out as far in the ocean (and thus diluted), and because fresh water 'floats' on saline water, then this polluted water can relatively easily be pushed back onshore by our prevailing summer Nor'Easters.
I'm sorry to paint a picture of doom and gloom, but I for sure don't want to be lamenting the 'good old days' and wishing that I'd done something about it.
On a better note, these are worst case scenarios, and it hasn't yet happened, and from what I can see, if it hadn't been for the pros it could have still been a top class season in Pitty.
Cheers,
Neil
When its said and done the human race is a bad breed!!!
Anyway on a positive note, can you pls "privately" let me know when its worth while making the trip up that way.
As i am always keen to get the boat in the water!! & fight with the humble fish ....darn slimy, scaley little buggers.
Let us know what sort of responses you get from our "fearless" leaders!
I'mwith you guys. Fishing spots have always traditionally been handed down over a beer anyway.
