well one of n=my mates has a 4.5m brooker thursday islander which he is givin to me for 6-12 months as he is going to new zealand to work. having fished out of this boat, i know it will do what i want and i know its history to- which is poor, but its free. we do have to get the boat and trailer regod as he let them lapse about 3 months ago, pain in the arse. but he also never washed it down after use, so it has salt stains all over it. no corrosion. any ideas how to best clean it up, i dont expect it to come up new, but want to get a bit of shine back, and not particularly keen on acid washing for enviromental rreasons. any ideas or products out there i could use?

I just had a look around hairy and the mild acid wash seems the best bet....one place said they've used that orange cleaner stuff and lemon peel, might be worth a shot, otherwise theres aluminium polish but again I would think it would go against your environmental reasons.

Good luck

Mate those salt stains could be oxidisation which is in itself protecting the boat.I polished up my old tinny(1 part polish 10 parts elbow grease)once you start your at it all the time.Go fishing and enjoy.:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

You wont get the stains out unless you're prepared to eat away into the thickness of the alloy [not a good idea]

Depending on how it looks now will determine how much shine you'll get after using a product Aliclean [I think thats what it's called]

It comes in a one litre bottle & you dilute it with water.

It is acid based put on some rubber gloves & use a piece of scotch brite dip it into the bucket with the solution then scrub the boat with it.

Allow slution to sit on boat up to 1 hr then hose off a gernie is better.

In that hr you will notice the alloy changing colour what the sollution is doing is eating away the oxides [corrosion] on the boat skin.

Mate those salt stains could be oxidisation which is in itself protecting the boat.

The only true bit about above quote is yes it is oxisadation [corrosion] the rest is utter rubbish corrosion only grow.

You can get the Alliclean from Whitworths it sells for around $10

You might like to combine some of the tips from the other members with a trip to a self service car wash. Use their water blaster and wheel cleaner product and I think that you will find that most of your stains etc will be gone.

In addition, they recycle their water so it is enviromentally friendly.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
