To all you keen kayakers and inflatable fishhunters, where are your favourite Sydney spots (mainly in terms of catching take home fish)? Obviously range is limited by winds and current, so I'm hoping I can get advice on productive sheltered areas. I've only tried North Harbour and Narrabeen Lakes so far and have caught a few decent bream, but thinking of expanding my horizons. Thinking of Clontarf and Fisher Bay area next. Anyone kayaked this area, or any thoughts or any other good spots? Peril?
cheers
Sean
Lane Cove river and the upper Roseville would be my tips, basically anywhere at the tops of the rivers/creeks where the valleys are steep sided and the boat traffic minimal and 4 knot zones. You are in a good position with the yak because you can target water thatothers can't.

Gday Sean
Almost anywhere on the right day, weekdays are king! I fish from my canoe pretty regularly (when you can get me out of my new boat...) in the georges river and botany bay (the bay on a very good day) and also Port Hacking. Pick your days and you will have plenty of fun and hopefully some success.

Berowra Creek Is a good place
At Crosslands Reserve,at the bottom of Galston Gorge.
Paddledown stream with the run out tide for Bream,Flathead and your usual brackish water fish
then do the same on the run in tide to come back.
It is very relaxing!!!!!!!

I had a lot of success trolling live baits for kingfish around west head and around scottland island.I did alright on the flathead up around roseville bridge and in Narrabeen lagoon
There is a kayak fishing club called called "the dawn prawners".They hold a monthly competion and can be found paddleing out at the basin at Monavale beach most Saturdays.
Check out the forum and all your questions will be answered

Thanks for all the responses guys. Roseville is a good tip as it's not far from where I live. Hopefully I'll get to try it out over the holiday weekend. Browsing through maps of Middle Harbour and Lane Cove/Parramatta rivers, there's lots of recommended spots if willing to travel a bit.
Scott, thaks for the link to the kayak forum, it looks like it has lots of useful info.
cheers

The Australian Kayak Fishing Forum has moved to www.akff.net.
My fishing of late has not been worthy of reporting so I'm not in a good position to recommend any particular spots. Definitely of the view that you can fish just about anywhere on a yak. I've been trying up tiny creeks like Scotts Ck at the end of Sugarloaf Bay on Middle Harbour (big bream there but I've only hooked undersized fish), harbour fishing, trolling etc. Will be joining one of the Dawn Prawners out of Mona Vale on Sunday morning for my first surf launch.
Lane Cove river did yield a couple of fish for me recently so give that a try.

Will be joining one of the Dawn Prawners out of Mona Vale on Sunday morning for my first surf launch.
Good luck with that Dave - just make sure your rods are tied on securely!!!
Thanks George. Will be taking just one rod each and storing them inside the yak when going through the surf. Bongin Bongin at the north end of Mona Vale is a fairly quiet spot, but the wind gods may no cooperate. Should be a learning experience.

Hi Dave
Say hello to Paul Welsh and his brother for me. Stick by those 2 blokes as they really do know how to fish from a Yak and they are great people.
Oh and say hello to Harry Hammerhead and his clan while your out there.
Dont worry the biggest Ive seen out there is only 5 foot, a baby.
(Take the poormans downrigger with you, Trust me)
Have a great day as I know you will and please drag some of those kingies into Pittwater for me.
Peter
Dave...how are you going to go with the 'leccy in the surf? Will it be a help or a hindrance?
Joe, I reckon it will be a definite hindrance. It and its battery will be left at home. I need to buy a much smaller battery to use with the sounder when I don't have the leccy.
I'm going to get a good workout trolling for pelagics. Hope my passenger is up to it. I'll be at the back
