Hi Mike and welcome also, its tough fishing in winter in Sydney if you dont have a boat. Only fish really worth targetting are Bream, Flathead and Trevally. Most wharves will hold them, Sydney has plenty of wharves to fish from. Down south, Tom Ugly's bridge is good for Blackfish also Bream Flathead and Jews at times. The wharf at St George Motor Boat club is ok too for the same species. Live yakkas get you nice jews on the run in.
Other top spots are Clifton Gardens in the harbour, Dawes Point under harbour bridge, but just look at your trusty street directory, look at the waterways and where there are wharves , thats how i found most of my fishing spots.

Just on fishing of the jettys and wharfs around Sydney is it true that you have to be carefull which one you fish, like the ferry wharfs that you can fish of them after the ferrys have stopped running

David, i have fished the wharves for years nearly a decade i'd say, and although some prolly dont allow fishing, if you fish it with respect and never leave a mess etc, you will be fine, i have had the Water Rats come from Kissing Point to Clifton, and never have told us to move if we were being normal and not making a mess or noise. The fisheries do do inspections also at night times.

Some wharves around Sydney do have ferries running but they stop at certain times, some at 8pm like Gladesville and others at 12am like Greenwich. Once they stop running these are the best times to fish for Jews in my opinion, its like they know they have stopped and come out to feed.

Dave, you have to check the signage....most ferry terminals/wharfs are no-go zones...Fisheries aren't your worry but the police are they will usually give you a warning but may fine you for fishing there.

Theres a good wharf at Kissing point just to the right of the ferry terminal, good spot for jews, bream, whiting, flathead.

heyy everyone thanks for the locations ive tried c liffton gardens also tom ugly and gladesville they all seem to be top locations but im just not gettin anything out of them this winter but i might go hit it to cliffton in the mornin on the weekend seems to be good trevally there but the thing that im not most experienced about is using right rigs and bait for trevally last weekend i saw a bloke put some burley in while he was fishing any ideas what makes good burly

xtosea

Burley tips here (http://www.sydneyfishfinder.com.au/sffforum/showthread.php?t=1224) for you.

Winter fishing is a bit slow, but it will pick up by next month.

thankss buddi sorri but can you help me outt if i want to catch trevally what rig should i use?...float rig do u rekon?

xtosea
06-08-07, 07:42 PM
Just a short trace of 20lb line maximum, of about 50cm, tiny hook and maybe a tiny ball sinker to a swivel, same as your normal bream rig or flathead rig. Use burley to get them around, and use fillets of fish etc, squid strips on your hook.

FishMan help out with a Trevally rig, read his new report also and maybe ask him for his advice.

mike try a fish off the surf rocks rather than the harbour - they r holding trevs tailor and sambos at present which can all be taken spinning metals from 20 - 60gms.
inside syd harb is really really clear at the moment - best luck is flatties and bream upstream toward parra river in dirtier water, on the top of the afternoon high (when the water should be warmest)
remember berley can be a hinderance in winter unless it is almost liquid. the fish r not eating much and you could fill them up with your berley if not careful....!
Soft plastics can be good in winter too, the fish will often hit them out of territoriality as much as hunger.

Hey mate about three weeks ago 2am we were fishing down balmain ferry warf and the water police came past. And told us we could not fish here. So i told them i was sorry and did not know, cause there are no signs saying not to fish. So he got out and walked around looking for a sign but there were none. So he told me im telling you can't fish on any ferry warfs even after the ferrys had stoped. He told me this is a warning and if we catch you again a fine will be issued, so we packed up and left. I was so Hott Next day i rand the fisheries they told me they had no problems with it and told me to contact sydney ferries so i did, they told it is a issue with them and to ring The NSW Maritime Authority for all the information, and they told me yes it is becoming illegall and the NSW police are policing it due to some people arguing with the ferries cause they dont want to pull there lines in:noway: and also people leaving bait behind....SO THANKYOU TO THESE :2gunsfiring_v1: INCONSDIERATE PEOPLE...they have ruied it for all....:ranting2:

without doubt the best wharf in sydney harbour is double bay... if you go there between 5:30 --> (pm) in the light you just have to quickly retrieve a pretty much unweighted SP... gulp shrimp 2" in new penny or nuclear chicken and minnow grubs have worked for me.... squid are there aswell... but with the sps you will catch 20 + picke within an hour... they just jump out of the water randomly in the light... if you burley well you will also attract flatties... (caught a 70cm the other day) bream, and baby salmon. there are some leather jacket on the pylon aswell... you can catch these with gulp blood worms.
Hope ive helped Mitch

You can fish Greenwich wharf or the baths, at the end of Greenwich rd, the wharf only fishes well after midnight after the ferries stop running, caught some awesome Jews there.

Its funny when i started fishing, i never asked anyone for any spots, i simply got the trusty UBD out and looked at Sydney Harbour and the surrounding foreshore and looked at fishable places. Then over the next years i went to these places and decided for myself if they are worth fishing or not, plus there are always people fishing somewhere where you go, and you talk to them and see what they catch or target. Thats how i learnt.
Now i have my favorite wharves that i know of that produce fish at certain times of the moon phase and on what baits. It took a few years but it works. Its a greater feeling of accomplishment then simply asking on an open forum for secret spots and tips, thats my though anyway.
All the best Iby

Iby, that wharf after midnight is a top place to fish, bait at your feet, Yakkas and Squid, use the right presented bait and you should do good.

My favorite spot, if i told on here it would not be my favorite anymore!
I have spent years learning the wharves in Sydney Harbour so i cannot divulge that info sorry. But some are not far from that wharf, being other wharves and points in the system.
