Been offshore last two days reef fishing for a few things, got some small snapps flatties and a few other tasty fish like beardies and stuff. Got heaps of pike too biggest almost 50cms kept a few for some jewy baits. Plenty of crap sweep etc.
The trip was most notable though today for the whales that swum up to our boat off longy while we were drifting.
Three of them were right around the boat swimming under it and next to it, it was pretty wicked. (got some vid on my phone ill try to post)
There were a couple of seals out there too basking on the surface. Then when we got into the spit there was another seal upriver of the spit bridge, just basking away as well.... right in the boating channel. We threw it a few pillies but it wasnt interested... :rolling laughter:
Stef there some pretty awesome shots!
i cnt beleive how close the whales where to you!!!!

Top shots there Stef,I love seeing the seals/dolphins and whales from the rocks down south, saw some penguins with BF the other weekend. Not too bad when you are in a boat as its easy to change spots but they're a bugger when land based as you gotta pack-up and move spots as the seals in particular and the dolphins scare all fish away.
Top stuff.

Great shots Stef...thats the beauty of offshore fishing, you never know what your gonna see...
I remember one day on our way back from browns me and my mate were chatting...not looking ahead just driving and chatting at 18 or so knots....anyway we are driving along and we see 2 whales about 2 metres to starboard go past us.....we freaked to think that if we had changed our course by a degree we would of hit them and i can only imagine the damage that would have done to the boat and the whale....
Great pics, I have a pic of a seal sitting on the red channell marker near south head from last summer...i'll try and dig it up
Oh nature at its finest! Dont you just love it!
Unfortunate about the lack of fish, but they are out there from what ive heard today and going by Choc's report!
Bring on the weekend. The Currents are already pushing south from Port and further North, hopefully it will all be good in next few weeks!
Fingers crossed.

Nice photos, nature at it's best.
Just quietly you can keep your whales, dolphins, seals, penguins and blooby Mutton birds. They are all a neucence while fishing.
On the other hand if you have new fishos on board who have not been introduced to this type of wildlife it can be most enjoyable.
I have had a whale scratch her back on the hull of my boat and was extremely lucky to have the boat come down bottom first back into the water, this old girl had barnicles all over her and must have been very itchy. Only ever happen to me once, since then I keep my distance.
