Howdy Fishfinders,

Has anyone used the Renoski range of shads for flatties or jewies, or even the one inch version for Bream ?

Looking at them they dont look like anything special but cost over $9.00 a pack with only two in each pack.

They are supposedly deadly on Flathead and jews. I gave them a run last week without a touch in an area where fish were taking other offereing no probs.

Are they overpriced underperformers or are they worthy of their reputation as a reliable favourite ?

Dave Green in QLD raves about them in most of his articles as THE plastic for lizards! I have never seen them so I can't comment on them personally.

Maybe i should have posted a question on a Bass Minnow.

Doesnt look like they get much use then.I ll have to do some more fishing with them and do a report.

Never used em Swoff ?

Never used em Swoff ?

I know people who've taken jews on them, but I've never tried them.

David Green used to rave about them for flatties, but I think he's hooked on the Pogy Shad these days since it cleaned up at the Flathead Classic.

They do look a little 'old school'. Dont know why they carry such a high price tag.

Have to see how they go.

Yeah the pogy is a killer

That's the "standard" shad lure for fisho's on the central coast of NSW. Auspin is made up that way somewhere and the tackle stores are all stocked up with them.
Funny thing is that they caught jews for me at SWR but haven't worked in Sydney...

Hey ty

Get ya backside down to woy woy bay on sunday and give us a look. Never seen one. I was actually going to give the drop bear 75mm a go funny enough. Your not the first person that said to me white is good in brissie waters, must be something in that.

Have not used them Grant

my definate favorite lizard lure (also landed a couple of jew on it) is the cheap-arse gold prawn (not it's real name :) )

distributed by gladiator and labeled top-catch, they are around 8cm long and togh as, landed a heap of tailor on one of them one day without even a tear.

Freddies normally carry them. Thornliegh bat and tackle sometimes carry them but they sell out quick. They are hard to get. Perhaps our mates here at Windsor have them ?

They are often overlooked buy people who have never bought them before because they dont have a big Renoski label on them. They are sold by Todd i think and have a yellow packet. I also think green is the mosr popular for the lure itself.

Cheers :)

Shad says,
Renoski's are top of the pops. Flathead cannot resist their big dopey wobble, big eyes and effective colours. There's something about the shape and weight distribution that makes them bury their heads into the seabed whilst their big sexy wobbly tail suspends on a 45 degree angle heading back.
As my local is middle harbour, the occasions when It's going home time and Ive caught and released little for the session. I open the renoskis velvet lined box and chuck that rubber with gusto. Guaranteed a lizard to take home for my lad to gaze at. (incidently, if youve got young kids at home, pop a fish skull on an ants nest for a few days.once the skull is cleaned and dried from the ants, you can demonstrate to the wee ones exactly what is inside their and most other creatures bodies. It's a good lesson in what makes us tick)

Part 2,
Shad digressed.,
A few years back, Todd (who I think are the importers and repackagers)
were selling renoskis that had a much fatter and thicker bit of rubber between the paddle tail. These were much more effective and possesed greater longevity.
I think what makes renoski so effective is their shape and the rubber they're made from. It seems very tough yet supple enough. Rarely would you have to bite there heads back when slipping em onto another jig hook. The lure seemed to keeo it's consistancy. Shads also found that by heating the head area with a blow dryer, it seemed to consolidate the excavation made from previous jighooks.
A very similiar shaped shad, made with similiar materials is a wee treasure from Riverside lures, they're called, wait for it.
MYSTIC SHAD.

I guess The iconic renosky shad has also fallen victim to "economic viability". I mean no blame or discredit upon EJ Todd. It just saddens shad to see any good product squeezed out of the market. No disrespect to Starlo and Bushy but the squidgy range and it's marketing machine could quite easily see more little known but nonetheless high quality lures dissapear from the shelves.
I was in Ottos the other day, squidgie has hogged approx 3-4m2 of display area. At Fish outta water squidgie occupies 1/4 of the soft plastic section, if the jig hook display is included then call it 1/2 the display area.
Coca cola, sony and kellogs brands practice identical tactics.
Shads question is. "since when has popularity become a measure of quality?"
One more question shad asks is "Are Starlo and Bushy confident that the welfare and working conditions of the chinese peasant workers employed to make their product is of a standard that they are comfortable with?"

Long live renosky shad

Come see us out at windsor we have only a small stand of squidgies and huge amounts of a lot of other types of plastics, I think you will find our variety of plastic is broader than most shops in the city
