I am respooling one of my Penn 50T's with 24KG line for our members night fishing trip.

Had a look at some "Trilene" today, low stretch and fairly hard. Does anyone have any experience of this line? Being bulk line it is about 30% of the price of spooled line such as Platypus etc.

Mulloway what line do you use and do you find that colour is important.

Any advice based on personal experience much appreciated.

Haji, Tough Line Braid 80lb Fluro yellow in colour.....Kamil was telling me about some top lines in the 15kg class the other day for YFT I'm sure he would be able to point you in the right direction.

Storms, I would find it hard to justify buying a full spool of braid. Would probably take more than 1000 metres, thats enough to put fuel in my boat for two months.

Oops, maybe one month, or six weeks,or 950 meters, gee you have to be carefull quoting figures don't you?

Haji I was just telling you what Wayno uses.......as I said ask Kamil, he's pretty clued up on this stuff and would be able to point you in the right direction....Not sure how much for good quality mono but wouldn't be suprised if it was comparable to braid when buying in bulk like 1000m spools. Just looked at Eco Braid by Surecatch 80lb 1000m, 0.47mm diameter...$150 delivered to your door.

haji,i use yellow tuff line as i really like it and my mate that taught me recomended it.....yellow is good so u can see all your lines at night time....other colours are very hard to see at night...yellow is perfect......

i can get from a mate 1200 yrds for around $220.......

thats what i use actually me and my mate are getting 2500yrds at the moment to spool all our reels up ready for summer and those big mulloways.........................:headbang:

Haji, either Black Magic, Momoi or Stren Gold(bit exxy though), or Tiagra line.
I have heard too many mixed reports about Trilene, although i have caught fish on it, i would not say i would recommend it. Another great line is Tortue.
All these will serve you well.

Haji...Triline isnt consider to be a good line...especially amongst game fishing circles....many complaints in regards to the line failing and thats why it has been discontinued.....the stock you may find in the 24kg range is stock from over a year ago.....Berkley now make Big game in its place....main diference between the 2 is the diameter...Triline was very thin at .63 for 24kg.....Berkler Big game is .70 from memory.......

I would go with the brands Kamil has listed or if you dont mind spending a bit more money you can go with a new line that was released not to long ago.

Its made by Sunline and its Tournament Siglon.......24kg IGFA rated at .57mm diameter....making it just a tad thicker then most 15kg lines....good line but at $80 for 600 metres its a bit more expensive then most mono line.

i agreee with netic, trilene is pretty crap -
i spool a few game reels almost evey day with it as well as with momoi, and the momoi is a much much much better line for a thousand reasons

ONly downside with Momoi Stef is its .74 diameter..thick as

yeah true momoi is best for 50wides plus really cos it is definately thicker. A good Beaky line cos has good abrasion resistance but probably not necessary for Tuna.....

as for whiplash Haji i know it is thin but it so often breaks below its breaking strain, it especially has such poor shock resistance at times. You can use line that is much heavier than normal though as its so thin and i guess it also comes in bulk

Well we did get a range of answers didn't we? I now know what not to buy but am still undecided as to final choice. Like the yellow colour, but I am not sure that a spool full of braid will offer much over a top quality, lo-stretch mono. Moreso given the price difference.

Is there a yellow, lo-stretch 24KG mono of medium diameter that will suit both offshore game and inshore Jewie fishing?

My "big" reels are Penn 50T,s mounted on Shimano "Backbone Elite" 5ft 7 " rods with Fuji guides. What would you recommend Steff?

I'm kinda old-school when it comes to mono. I prefer either the Tortue or Maxima. A few mates of mine swear by the Schnieder Klear. They reckon it's the best, but I think it's a bit too thick.

Depends on what you intend to use it forn I'm a little confused cause you mentioned night fishing.

Obviously it's goingf onto a game reel & if you want to pay the extra $$'s I'd recommend ANDE line

yeah Haji you want Stren (dunno if it is called stamina here or just in the usa, but this is the one you want) in hi vis gold, it is yellow low stretch good abrasion resistance. it is very stiff tho it might not be good for jewies - - - go and check it out somewhere before you buy as it is very different to other mono's

go here for more

to be honest too - if you want to fish for kings you would never ever want to use yellow line.
the two best all round lines i have heard mentioned so far (for game and estuary) would be the black magic, and the siglon. Siglon pretty much make the best monos from 2lb up so not having seen their game line i'd be happy to believe it would be up with the best as well.
the stren would have prob the best abrasion resistance for its thickness.

Stef I agree with that yellow thing with kings I found out the hard way there!!!
,, But it is excellent for night fishing !!!!!!and most other species don't mind the yellow,,,but for kings..thats another story.

For the record, I just picked up 1000 meters of Black nitlon braid 80LB. And will try it out next week. The taren point boys put me onto it last week. I have tried Nitlon in 40 to 5lb last summer and it rocks .,
I have not seen a black line ,greys and browns but not black... Will report later on it
