Hey Guys,

Took the boat out from pittwater on saturday morning, around 6am...
(its a 38ft sun runner) so me, my Fishin buddy dave, and another one James, headed out...
on the ride out we sucked down our kwells tablets (the best thing since sliced bread)
and finally got to the point in pittwater where we could open it up.... Throttle down, and out to the valient.....

Now Firstly, lets just say, we have tied up off here 5 or 6 times over the last few months, and today, we circled and circled, with no luck locating the tie off.... (we suspect it has been cut, cause we found the wreck several times on the sounder....)

Fished here for a little while on anchor, but nothing but baby flatties, we were too far of the wreck...

Not to worry, lets head off to east reef... (i have a new gps point i wanna try) ....

Anyway, as soon as the anchor was set, and the first line dropped, we were on....

We were lucky enough to find a small scool of trevally, who kept coming and going.... some good leather jackets...
a bunch of wrasses, and reef fish we put back (not bacause of the size, but we believe firmly in only keeping what you will eat and use within the week....

So we kept a couple of leather jackets, a nice seargent baker, and 1 travallies.... also a blind shark, and a PJ...

we had caught about 4-5 pj's each as well, so we were sore, but had fun...

Anyway, after a few hours of just us there, by lunchtime we had boats popping up around us... but no one seemed to be catching a great deal...

(except for us)

anyway, next thing i know, the inevitable happens, another cruiser, about the same size as us, powers past within 10 feet of us.. literally, no exxagerations... shaking around, we armed up with pillies, and were going up front to launch them at these idiots...

When we see that they have cut sharp around the front of us, and they were trolling a line... which was now running along the anchor chain, and side of our boat....

THATS IT!!!!!

I dove to the back, grabbed my knife and cut them offf...

i wasnt going to deal with untangling from my anchor or worse the props....

anyway, gave it a yank before i cut off their line, and then proceeded to pull up what they were troling...

Cheers guys ... Brand New Rapala looking lure.... Maddest slimey mackeral lure i have seen...

anyway, like i have said in previous forums, i have all the time in the world for curtious people... but when you start being stupid, you get what you deserve..

anyway i wanna finish this on a happy note... so here are some pics, of us boys, and the fish we got...

P.S- the cruiser in the background is not the one we are talking about... they were great .. approached slow, kept their distance, and we both had a great time... (we saw them pull up a couple.. but saw them watch us pull up our heaps)

Secret.... - Burly bombs.... there is the torpedo which u send down, and it releases the burley on the bottom... get one.... and burley whenever the bites start to die... (if burleying on top, you will more than likely lose your burley, and send the fish somewehre else.... )

Damn, for some reason i cant post the pics.. will do soon...

The gummy the trevs and the jackets are all good fish. What the hell are you going to do with the Port Jackson and the Blind shark?. I doubt the cat will even eat them.

Have to aggree with Frank, why keep the sh1tbox sharks? & it musta been crappy weather or you really like eating treva's, couse in that boat i'd be looking further afield & targeting some real rish.
Any way well done, you achieved what you set out to do which is what we all strive for & not always sucseed, mission acomplished.:ohhh yeah:

Hey, Yeah, well i have tried them, blind sharks taste like gummies, in beer batter.. but myself, i like to keep fish, and chuck the sharks back after a pic, but these samoan guys at work love them... so we keep the occasional 1 or 2 for them, but never more... i think they boil it, then add coconut milk, and crumble the fish to make a kinda chop suey or stew... it tastes alright.... (also banjo rays/sharks are good when these boys cook em) ....

Yeah, we only just got the boat, so if anyone is keen to take us out further, we are happy for you to some out with us....
Its my old mans boat, which after 20 years i finally convinced him to buy .... After seeing how long i had my old trailer boat for, and the motor was still going, and it still floats, and would always come home with good mixed bags.... he finally got it ... mum had her say, so its more luxury side, than fishing, but me and the boys have sorted out the outside back deck area so we can fish it up..

But yeah, seriously, if anyone is keen to take us out on our boat, (it lives in newport) get in touch, and lets arrange an outside fish...

P.S- attached is a pic of my old boat ... I still have it, but with this, and my mate dave now getting a trailer boat around the same size, but with a bigger engine, i am goign to have to sell it... (always heartbreaking selling your love)

ANyway... cheers for the chats guys .. hope to give you a good report on sunday ... we are heading out to hit up the reefs again....

P.S- Anyone know where i can go to chase some good snapper too ???

WIll send pix soon, of hamuwaja (my boat) and the SS KRONIK my old boat .. it wont let me upload again for some reason...

The Japanese rate trevally pretty highly as sashimi. I have had it a few times it is pretty good. Cooks up ok, but not as good as it is raw.

btw if youre happy to take your boat to the shelf ill take you out there for tuna tomorrow!! :wiink:
or the next day,
or any tues wed or thurs really

for snapper go to any of the well known reefs south of barrenjoey in about 40 - 60m of water, berley up and go hard!
and use cuttlefish 4 bait

Cheers for the advice, so i am assuming to start with like newport, and move my way toward long reef to find some ??

Wish i could during the week, but i work full time.. i may be able to get a day off over the next few weeks though, so if your offer stands, i will let you know when i will be free on a tues or wednesday and we can hit it up...

Clisest i catch to tuna are bonito- and biggest being 4kilo at valient as well...

yeah newy is a good start. find your own gravel grounds using whatever maps you can find (there are some that will tell you), and your sounder.

and im always keen to go wide, let me know if you are free sometime and we'll see what the condidtions r like..

Such a common misconception, to clear things up for those wanting to know in the future:

Port Jackson Sharks are not protected!!!!!!!!

But they taste like poopoo

Yeah, they are not protected... wobbies are though ...

- Preparation is the key to any eating...

if you kill a cow, and try to eat it the same day, its gunna taste like ****... you have to give the meat time to cure..
such with PJ's and rays ..
you must first soatk them in frest water... then cook, and with coconut milk .. youmm yumm... heheh

Mate If you and your mates enjoy eating them then thats all that matters.
While ever there are better tasting treats available I think I will be setting them free. One of my best mates keeps Sweep, Mauri Wrass, and other fish that I turn my nose up at, and he embarrass me at the cleaning tables, but I am starting to live with it after 40 years:cool-smiley: :headbang: .

We are spoilt in this wonderful country with the vast amount of top quality fish we have at our door step. We take it for granted and sometimes we become too fussy.

Haha sweet my dory made it on the net.
I want another one, that one tasted awesome.
Those trevs we got tasted bloody good too. (Did my share as sashimi and floured fillets yum.)

Cant believe how many PJ sharks we have been catching lately eh.
Wouldnt catch me eating one of those but only to happy to keep the odd one for the samoan boys (thye will eat anything haha).

Keen to chase some snapper soon eh.

p.s. that wierd looking fish you caught was a beardie.

Cheers Dave.

We should make a Sydney fish finder flag... so that when fishing, we should put it on our boats, so we can say g'day when out on the water... etc ... Anyone interested???

Haji

What a top idea! A SFF Flag.

We could have a picture of Squinie with crossed Port Jackson sharks and a smoked eel in the corner. Kamil's aftar, and the Feral one in full profile.
(you will need to go back to some earlier posts to make any sense of that.)

Seriously though I think it is a great idea that should be followed up. Anyone have any ideas for a design?

Also, how about moving this and the last post to its own thread so that we can all keep track of progress.

:ohhh yeah: :ohhh yeah: :ohhh yeah:
