View Full Version : H.River and West Reef.
Well we fished the river on Saturday night with not much good bait on hand, getting late to our spot to try for the elusive Jew! Fished a few spots then wanted to return to our favorite morning high spot, but alas we could not even see the next boat next to us! The fog had settled in and was here to stay! It was a cold night! Stayed put where we were as moving could have been dangerous! Awoke to people yelling at each other lost in the fog! Hassld my mate Fletcher for nothing anchored next to us!
We woke up and slowly crept out to the heads and to West Reef to try and get some Snapper or Jews or Kings, but all we got was bait of Yakkas, Slimies and Pike! Had a few out live but no takers!
went back into Cowan to drift for Flathead but to no avail! Had a half hearted hit by a Tailor on a poor man downrigged butterflied sllimey!
Always next week!
look at the fog after 8am still in the river thats Lion Island behind the rod!

The first time I fished the Hawkesbury was at night and the fog was a pea-souper the next morning. We were near Dangar and a bloke came up asking directions to Juno. We didn't realise that the boat had swung 180 degrees and sent him up to the road bridges.:upside down hello:
You should have seen the filthy look he gave us 90 minutes later when he came back past!:wtf::wtf:

As Kamil said, not a good weekend fishing wise. Was anchored up a few hours before the change on Saturday afternoon. Had a good range of baits out for zip.
Moved abit later to fish the run out had baits out all night for nothing yet again. Woke up to be greeted by very thick fog, so thick that I could hardly see Kamil's boat at one stage ..... and he was anchored right next to us !
Good range of quality baits out again for nothing but a small catfish. Once the fog had finally cleared (was around 10:00 am or so) we went over to have a quick look at West head, but with someone on bored not feeeling great with the rocking from the swell we dicided to cut out losses and head for home.
Very quite weekend, but theres always next time.
Cheers,
Fletcher

Well sorry you boys had a pretty ordinary week end.
I had a great one, long drive for a couple of days, but worth the effort.
Snapper, Morwong, Goatfish, perch, Leatherjacket. All good fish, great company, lots of laughts, what else do you want.

Dave, that was my first time out this season, did not have proper bait, its still a bit early, but from end of September it should start going off. With October to April prime time. Hope we all get into some this year.
If you really want help, PM Wayneo about it(Mulloway Mayhem), he is the master of them on here! The boy really knows what he's doing!

Nice feed of trevally, i would of thrown the pj's back if i was you..You must of been anchored on the tip of the reef to pick up the trevallys, fish around it where the sand meets the reef, that's where i seem to pick up my mowies and snapper.

find the edge of the reef where it meets the sand, and try and pin your self so your on the sand and the burley is floating into the reef, this way you can also pick up flatties, if your picking nothing but rubbish, try floating your bait down the trail, you should get hit half way down.

what i do is drive up to the spot i wanna be then press the (strike) button on my gps then i drift off then drive back up the drift line going a little bit further to allow for drifting while the anker sets
with pratice this will get you on a spot
When anchoring you also have to take in account the direction of current and wind.

Cheers Guys .. yeah the gps sounds pretty good... will start to practise....
(it was alot easier staying where i wanted on my run about, cause i didnt have to allow the time the winch takes to let it out ... )
Looks like the wind may be okay this sunday, but the seas look kinda big.. .
