View Full Version : Which waterway dows everyone fish?
Hi all, just thought it might be a good idea to find where everyone fishes?
And to test the poll option. Ive only included Sydney waterways as this is meant to be the 'Sydney Fish Finder'
I voted for the Harbour because it's the biggest and therefore I fish it the most often (Parra, Harbour and Middle Harbour combined).
I usually fish the Harbour a couple of times a week with at least one other session on either Botany Bay, the Georges, Port Hacking or the Hawkesbury, and lately I've evn been hitting Manly Lagoon and Dam again.

need an "all the above" option :D
My vote went to PH as i fish it more regularly.. at the moment
Chris, I had to limit the number of options in the poll, plus I dont know the waterways down south, so they are all just generalised areas.
Mines Broken Bay
Although i spens a lot of time on the Hawkesbury, Lake Mac is fast becoming my fav. Being a RFH the fishing is getting better all the time and there isnt much you cant catch thier. :)

Although I spend a lot of time outside, I went for the Hawkesbury/Pittwater combo as it just offers so many options - not just fishing, but day family boating/picnicking/camping hire boat etc.
I put it down as Sydney Harbour. I do fish other waterways, but Sydney gets hit more often than the others. And because I fish it more often, I have nutted it out a bit better than the other waterways! I know exactly where to go for baits, and I have gotten familiar with a lot of drop-offs and other structure, so it's a no-brainer for me!

My boats kept up the coast so spent all my time off broken bay. That vast waterway has a fishing option for each windward point of the compass. Thus i know it intimitly..(spl?)
Id like to spend more time in the harbour but don`t get asked as often as id like
I don`t enjoy towing my boat to and fro, its damn expensive not to mention the amount of gear that goes with "posssibly fishing anywhere" from trout to billfish while i have it in possession. (i work in a fishing/camping outlet  ). MY back`s not getting any stronger :(
Id like to spend more time in the harbour but don`t get asked as often as id like
You really think you have to ask Dan? Just call...and say your coming! You know my routine.

Even though I fish Hawkesbury and Port Hacking occassionally... my vote goes to botany as i'm there more often.....
Typically the fish tend to be a bit smaller around the bay than in the harbour but nothing wrong with throwing a few crab traps in and releasing about 30-40 just under legal fish than heading home with some blue swimmers.....
The waterway I fish most often is the Hawkesbury in all its parts. However, the question asked for favourite so I voted for the beach. Its the type of fishing I enjoy most of all. Frustrating at times I know but where do you go where its not.
Love the challenge of catching worms & fishing for the smaller surf spp. particularly whiting & don't whiting and dart box above their weight! The scenery is often not bad either  Then after dark, lobbing out the big baits for bigger targets. Boy have I had some battles with rays and sharks. One day MrMullowayoff Sydney, you just wait 8)

This is a hard choice, as I have 3 waterways I like, but I chose the harbour because of the salmon and kings Iv'e caught there this year and will hopefully keep catching.
Just love fishing off the beach. 3kg sambos on light gear. What a rush!
I have fished each location, I voted Botany bay, as this is where I can relax the most these days, and mostly come home with a feed.

I fish Botany Bay and offshore from there. Mainly because of the great ramp at the St George Motorboat club which makes it easy to solo launch my boat. Otherwise have done a lot of fishing in Port Hacking which is great for a smaller, tinnie type of boat.
Also fish offshore Ulladulla which is a magic place with fishing that we used to have in Sydney 35 years ago.
Hope this helps the survey.

i voted for port hacking :Cloudy: because i find it really good sometimes but i could do with some good tips:confused2: as sometimes i do no good:munky:
To Fishinf
I started fishing Port Hacking a very long time ago and lived on the river for some years. It is a lovely clean, clear river to fish but you have to know your spots.
The Ballast Heap has always been good for me but "no run no fun" applies. Fish light for whiting and bream plus the odd flathead.
Any of the channel marker poles toward Lilli Pilli often have a flathead or two alongside, use plastics to try.
The flats at Lilli Pilli can fish well for bream, especially at night.Use a long trace and fish as light as possible.
If you pump nippers on the flats at Mainbar try pumping on a rising tide using a sieve to drop the pumped sand in. Whilst you are doing that place a rod holder in the sand and baiting up with a nipper fish the area that you are working over. You will be suprised how often you will catch sizeable whiting almost at your feet.
Finally, I have not tried this myself but have it on good authority that fishing plastics around the RMYC marina is good for bream. I had a boat on the marina for many years and can tell you that there were often monster bream hanging around boats that had a bit of growth on them.
Hope this helps, Good Luck.

Should have voted Botany Bay as its the only place I have been in the last few months and caught a feed.:rolling laughter:
Voted Beach and Rocks, being land based these are the most accessible spots for me to get to.

I voted Sydney Harbour...as I fish with my daughter mostly and will only go to extremely safe spots such as wharves or inland spots such as Spit and Roseville bridge for eg...
Although we have hit the beach and Narrabeen lakes...which again is safe if kids are involved...
As far as boats are concerned I have fished with a mate off Longreef beach and that's been awesome getting into Kingy's and Snapper...

Pittwater mainly for me, along with the northern beaches and rock platforms.
after those i fish the hawkesbury and broken bay area but have only really been able to for the last year or so because of access to decent boats (ie. not my little tinny).
My favorite fishing would have to be wading out on a nice big sand flat and fishing for whiting and bream with freshly pumped nippers on a rising tide.
or just going down to the local wharf at night and throwing a squid jig around.
Hi Guys
My fishing is mostly done at Hawkesbury,Cowan Creek,Broken Bay, from kingfish to bass. One river thet have too offer so much for anglers.

Fished most of those places listed
Iwas mainly a offshore fisherman for many moons but these days find I'm quite enjoying fishing estuaries mainly due to having a small tinny which alloys me to fish spots I cant get the bigger boat into.
90 % of the time I fish in Botany Bay & will sneak into Pt Hacking during the week as it's not as bag with traffic.
Still like doing day or weekend trips down to Greenwell Pt didn't see it listed in the poll.
Greenwell is like my 2nd backyard & a place I've spent many a trip @ dosen't fish as good as it used to by any means mainly due to the heavy commercial fishing but still a productice place once you find where the fish are
Gday ..
My favourite location has to be in my home territory,,,the Shoalhaven River and if not,,,the beach off Ulladulla {Rennies or Tabourie Island}:hellyeah:

Mainly Pittwater for me.
Unfortunately Pittwater does not have the commercial bans like Sydney Harbour, but its still a great waterway.
Great to see a size increase for kings, but if commercial guys can net them, whats the point.
Just my view, Ian.
