Mick, I asked the same question a while ago and Stef said round $80 too, so yeah that would be the going rate mate......I'm just gonna give the drill a workout and change lines on the one spool as the need arises.
Cheers mate!
hey jason yeah i thought that was the answer but its a silly price cause i bought the real for $150.00. might as well spend another $70 and buy a new whole new one.

Yeah mate, I'm understanding your point....I have only been using 50lb braid on my big silstar reel for over a year now and it has been great off the rocks and in estuarys...Once I get the braid on my 6500 its gonna probably stay there....
Might have to see if Stef or Benno have any lying around anywhere? I agree they are expensive.

HSV,
$150.00, I can only presume that is second hand, and if so why did you not buy new. I got mine for $180.00 and you won't get them any cheaper than that.... Although if you got yours for $150 new tell me where I will buy $10,000 worth and sell them.......

if u r getting BTR 6500's new for $150 id be buying a few of em. that is an awesome price. but yeah the spools are generally 1/3 of the reel price, and given the approx rrp of a 6500 is $265 thats where the $80 comes from.

Well that is a different story, so you didn't really get it for $150 he just made up the profit on other items. You won't but a 6500 anywhere for $150 by itself with no other products, even if you buy 5 reels that are all 6500's you still can't get them for $150.
I paid $180.00 for mine and you won't get them any cheaper than that if you just buy the reel alone.......
Happy fishing with your new gear HSV, bring on the warm months.....

just out of interest, what is max braid you run in the 4500 and 6500 without changing the drag?

Hairy you can put what you want on them! From the advice I have recieved from members here on the 6500 seems anywhere from 40lb to 80lb is what people use and again from advice received I would say putting in carbon drag washers is the go as it costs under $20 for them. I'm not sure on the 4500....
Ling weight would depend on what you want to target.

is it a hard job to replace the washers? and do i get them from dunphy sports or elsewhere? thinking of putting the 30lb finns on the 4500 and putting 50-80lb on the 6500

sir mulloway, do you prefer green or yellow braid or dont think it matters? really want to catch a jew this summer, preferably before christmas anyway
mulloway mayhem

i always use yellow...it makes it easier to see your line of a night using your head torch or any torch actually...so your lines arent crossed over and aalso when your on a big jew you will know if lines are crossed then also

Carbon drag washers increase the drag pressure, best way I can describe it is guys fit metal brake pads to cars so they stop better, carbon drag washers are the same they dissipate the heat better so would stand up to a hard prolonged fight a lot better.
theres guys here who can explain this better than I....Wayno, Hoodlum, Kamil, Stef can you guys give this a better explain!

ah ok yep understand now thanks jason ....so basically when im constanlty pulling in say seaweed fish .I got a better chance of landing it cause there is no friction on the drag....:cool-smiley: :cool-smiley: :cool-smiley:

do the washers come as a complete kit or do they just replace the felt washers? and do you oil them like felt washers?

Jason where did you find the washers? I have searched the site and cant locate them for the 6500.

Kris, I sent them an e-mail got a responde from Mrs Erskine...they don't have them as an off the shelf item they make them for the 6500 specially.
Heres the e-mail I got....
Hi Jason
We can custom cut Carbontex washers for your Shimano 6500BTR for a cost
of $21.00 (3washers)
Cheers
Veronica Erskine
Hairy, from what I gather you use a tiny bit of the lubricant supplied or none at all and as described above they come as a set of 3 to replace the existing felt washers.
Cheers
Jason
