Looking at fitting a new sounder to the Pogoboat

ANy one got any opinions on the differences between transom mount and thru hull transducers.

I knoe thru hull will involve drilling a hole through the hull to fit it, I dont really have a problem with that and might even prefer it comparred to drilling and screwing into the transom wall as regards to getting rot in the transom at some point.

Im really more interested in whether you get a better result, as regards the performance of the unit with thru hull against transom, particularly on the move

Regards Pogo

Depending on the sounder, in a glass boat you will not have to drill a hole. you can mount them internally as long as you have no air between the transducer & hull, this can be done with silicone, but check with a manufacturer or good dealer, there may be a better way.
NOT an option in aluminium.

you can always do a wetbox scenario

basically the sounder tranny is in an airtight box, be it pvc etc etc

full of water or vegetable oil etc

this sits flush against the bottom of the hull inside the boat.

this basically reads through the hull and give great readings.

this site has alot of info on trannys and mounting them etc
