I know there's some fellas out there who know a lot about different brands of braid.....

I'm looking for some for lure casting....up to 20lb...whats recommended that will cast very well but won't get knotted or bury on the spool!

Budget is open as I'm happy to spend a bit more to get the good stuff.

Cheers Guys

Most braids are the same as far as casting goes Jase, it is the reel you are using that dictates whether it comes off the spool cleanly.
If your reel does not lay the braid nicely, it will dig into itself and knot on the spool as you cast.
The best all round braid in my opinion is Tuff Line XP. People get too technical with Braids these days.
Others will have other input too.

I've used a few different brands & they all cast different.

Found the nitlon so far has had the best results as far as no wind knots goes.

The more expensive plattl tends to give alot more wind knots

Have a few more spools of other brands which I have tried out yet

Kamil is spot on, braids are braids, diameter is the main diffrance, Tuff Line is a good line i have some fluro green that is quite thin combared to some others. Finns is great also But if ou want it for mainly spinning a fluro green is best. Another 1 that I am really happy with is Nitlon a touch thicker than Tuff but very well behaved & maybe a better all round option if using from the rocks also.

Actually beats Kamil is not spot on & Kamil knows if I say something I can back up my words.

Dyneema is used in all braids BUT the quality of the braid can be measured by the % of dyneema that the braid contains for example.

The more dyneema the finer the braid, making for a limper line much easier to cast not to mention a higher breaking point.

Now different manufacturer's will weave in different types of fibres into their braid therefore not all braids are the same & reason I said Kamil was not spot on.

With the Platyll I mentioned earlier it takes one machine a whole week to produce a spool of around 10,000 meters & that machine is weaving 24 hrs a day they call their braid Thermally Fused

As far as Storm's Q goes about the line burying itself well using nylon backing line will help

Kamil is spot on with what he said.
Depends on the reel & how it lays the line as to the chance of it biting into the pack. The faster it lays & crosses the line the better.
is what i ment by that.
as for braids being braids thats also true, we are not talking fused lines, True Braids & the amounts of micro dyneema varies only the thickness & tensile of the line.
anyway not an arguement, Jase asked what braids would people use or recomend maybe you agree with the choises or would like to add to his choises.

Apologies to Kamil what I did was focus on the comment
braids are braids

Personally I'm not a big fan of braid & only use it on my light spin outfits reckon it's a p***k of a line to fish baits with & get pee'd off when peeps rave on how good a product it is.

Only ever had probs with braid biting back into itself on the heavier stuff on overheads no probs with the threadlines

I have braid on all my reels..

I foung that fireline, is just gelspun and not nearly the same. it is also like touching a cord, not nice...

Platypus is great, and the jarvis walker brand is also quite good..

but my favourite, as it feels most natural, is a true braid and is not too bad on the pocket, is bioni or bionical braid..

i use the 20 pound pink line... And it has never been snapped off on a fish ...

(although the biggest caught on it so far would be 3-5 foot pj's 4 kilo bonito, and 60-80 cm salmons.

In terms of casting from rock ledges etc, i find i dont cast much less than mono.

alot to do with the reel etc..

anyway,

i would get a few types and trial them out... Bionic should be on the list though ..

P.S- i think fish outta water has a special on it at the moment ..

Cheers for the feedback guys.....
I currently have braid on 4 of my reels and 2 of them cast great all the time with no problems ....The 6500 I recently bought had very supple braid on it and it casted great but cause it was so soft pulled off the reel that extra loop or two and caused a bloody big knot so Kamil it's certainly not the reel I was using.....I tried the same reel out with the bonzai braid I had on my Silstar reel and it casted fine with no knots but this braid is a little stiffer!

The tuff line XP is very similar texture to the Bonzai braid on my other reels...I think I will go with it.......

Huma...I had a top shot of the Jarvis Walker braid on my Shimano Aernos and it was great. Only trouble was it deteriorated much quicker than the Bonzai I got off e-bay!

I have put the braid that was on my 6500 onto my overhead and using it last weekend experienced no troubles at all, it didn't bury on the reel.

When I'm loading braid onto my reels I put a lot more pressure on the spool than with mono to get it to lay real tight which I'v found keeps it very even and prevents it burying on the spool but the real soft'n'supple braids are what I will avoid-they cast better but are I believe my cause of tangles and knots when casting.

Cheers Fellas
