Went to the salty end of the Hawkesbury today chasing EP's , it seems they have packed up down there for this year and headed back up river. We decided to just catch some dinner and pulled one nice little bream 30cm and three nice eating size flatty's between 40 - 45cm. Thoug once I had cleaned the fish a bastard pelican stole my bream when my back was turned!!! The mongrel reached up onto the cleaning table and took the 30cm specimen in one hit!!!! So Im only eating flatties for dinner!
All fish were caught using Gulp minnows in pearl water melon colour.

I do relise the pelican made a bad choice and left me with the better tasting fish, but it took many casts and a wet bum to get that fish:ranting2:

Obviously from that pic I was thinking about it. It went about 28cm to the fork. The photo was of poor quality and didnt show clear measurment, and besides, it was a very small bream by bream chaser standards. A pan fish not a record fish!

Hey Guys, whats the beef with Pelicans?
They are a sign of a healthy enviroment and a fun bird to watch as they squable over bits that you throw to them. I have even had some take pillies out of my hand. Magic!
Sure they might steal the odd fish if you are not looking but you can't blame them for that, there only looking for their daily feed.
I would rather have a hundred Pelicans around my fishing spots than none at all as their presence is a sure sign that there is food (aka fish) around for them.
Now if you were talking about those bl%^&$ black and white bait stealing mutton birds that dive after every bait that you send down offshore and gobble it up (and get hooked up and cause terrible tangles) I might have to agree with you. Anyone else had problems with Mutton birds?
