Went wide of broken bay today, found good lick of 19.5 water, trolled up a few stripeys on the edges of it, then cubed all day - 9 till 5, for one single little fish (bout 15kg same as last week), which came at 11.40am.
Expected more after the first fish, but nothing all arvo...
ill put a pic up soon...

It's the way it goes sometimes & dosen't it pee you off ??

Well my Sparky saved himself from getting zapped he caught zilch yesterday, he didn't get out till lunchtime shat himself inside the bay cause it looked a bit rough he reckoned.

If you ask me I think he's a Woospusser

Anyway he found the same 19 degree water you did on the shelve then made the same mistake so many of us make ever since those silly GPS's came out.

He kept going out to the Southern Canyons where the water was green & 17.5 degrees.

Stiff ****ty I say that'll teach him to tell me porky's :rolling laughter:

Yeah think the good old days are few & far between It's been a long time since I've had big schools of YFT sitting in the cube trail @ any given time anything up to 100 or so fin & you'd pull the bait away if the fin going for it was to small & wait for the next one to have a crack.

And they were good size fish as well unlike the rats we get these days these days you get a run or two early & think you're in for a good day & nothing zilch after the 1st run.

Tha't why I like fishing the canyons I've worked out the best drift over the years & if the fish are there we'll get them all day,.

Mind you this season has been a shocker for me 6 trips zero results exept for one mako.

Miss the days you wouldn't go out till lunch time fish 3 - 4 hrs & come home & you didn't even need to go out wide The Peak was good enough.

I kid you not this was an average afternoon's fishing session when the fin were there.

Heard the commercial boats have been getting fish like that up sealy way so maybe its not so bad, but my gut tells me it probably is. Speaking to some ex pros they tell me it was awesome in the 70's when you could get into a 15kg yellow 500m off barrenjoey. now we go 40 miles for one. god knows how far our kids will have to go to get one....

Mate I didn't start fishing boats till late 80's that pic is abot 13 years old & you'd spew if you knew how good it was back.

Recall one season on the peak I personally nailed a doz fish all over 90 kg each & prob one outing that stands out in my mind.

We had a tripple hookup school of monsters came up in the cube trail we were all fishing 24 kg tackle, one of the guys got spooled in no time, my fish fought down deep ended up having a heart attack & died no chance in hell of lifting to the surface the 3rd fish fought clean all surface runs.

Well that fish went 106 kg & the guy got it moulded & it sits up on his wall.

Personally I think GPS's have alot to do with non fish days to many peeps including myself have lost the art of having a feel for where the fish are & drive straight past good water only to find crap water further out.

eg' how many times have you come across good water & heaps of baitfish only to keep driving past them ????

Obviously quite a few years ago there Dog....Lovin the stubbies

Go on Frank, drag em out, scan some shots and give us a look at what it was like in your hey day!

I do remember seeing huge tuna like those in Dog's photo at the co-op next to the Old bridge at Nowra.....They seemed so big-I was only little back then but they were bigger than me.

I'm not as old as some on here but still remember fishing around Shoalhaven heads with my parents in the mid to late 70's and coming home with too many fish....Never went offshore but with outstanding catches of Snapper, flathead, morwong, whiting, jews and many other species every trip out. I gotta get the old footage my dad has of me as a tacker hooking into fish in the shoalhaven and give you all a look.

Fishing will never ever be anything like what it was then...all the technology and advancements haven't helped us stop the rape and pillage going on in our seas and waterways.:nopity:

Yeah I know what you mean by that I didn't even own a camera but the memories always stay in your head
.

Didn't need a camera if you wanted to see a big fish again then you'd just go out & wet a line.

I do remember seeing huge tuna like those in Dog's photo

:rolling laughter: they're not huge by any means biggest prob around 60 kgs & I did say that was an average catch.

Crappy photo but this is more a huge fish below YFT dont grow in lengthwise once around 5 1/2 ' - 6 ' they just balloon out & the sickes are a good indication of weight of a bigger fish this one went 96.4 kg

Mate when you're under 10 and used to catching estuary fish up to a few kg's a tuna thats bigger than you looks darn big, mind you some of the jews my dad and grandfather caught had mouths big enough to stick my head into and bellies rounder than me.....They stirred me up and scared me from going swimming in the river for a while cause they told me they eat little boys!:rolling laughter:

DC. You are right. Back then the boasting rights were at the ramp on the day. On the odd occasion someone would have a camera and would take a snap shot and promise to send you a copy. With me when I did have a camera with me it was me who would take the photos of other guys with fish.
It's only the introduction of digi cameras and web sites that have got me having photos of me with fish.
My largest YFT was 97kg, but I used to cheat back then.
150lb Jinkai straight to the hook from a 7/0 everol with 9/0 drag washers, with the drag locked up all the way with plyers.
You either had the fish in the boat or it snapped you off early.
Once we had our quoto for the day, we would play with light gear on the kingies etc.
Never had to go further then the peak.
Them days you would drive via a compass and land marks.
The day they felled the chimney over long bay I had to find other means of knowing where I was.

Na ! was a mates

Each fish has a story that yellowfin screaming forward the 24 kg mono mainline cut through my 10 mm anchor rope B4 we had a chance to drop the Bouy, then started the motor & it made weird clacky noises [big end was sh*tting itself] so turned it off

In the distance saw 2 boats coming my way [5000 owner] ended up jumping out of my boat into his cat landed the fish then jumped back on my boat nursed it home.

Back to mates place to pick up fin I never owned camera back then & as you can see his didn't take a crash hot photo.

150lb Jinkai straight to the hook from a 7/0 everol

7/0 everol ???????????????????

Very simply but good reels think I've still got the 2 1/2 / 0 somewhere in the garage & if I'm not mistaken yours was a 7 1/2 / 0.

I could be wrong but pretty sure they went 2 1/2 , 4 , 6 , 7 1/2 , 9 & 12 / 0's

Fished 37 kg stand up once on a bent butt & never again after that

We had Alby's in the cube trail catching them @ will all day long & I got a brain explosion thought I'd handline one in :rolling laughter:

So I pulled the the 37 kg stick peeled of some line felt the run grabbed the line & tried to handline the Alby in

Bad Mistake !!

We dont break cube trail & every man on his own, the other 2 guys kept fishing & landing alby's meanwhile my Alby was staying down very deep.

Could of sworn it was a noah's arc I let the rod tip fall down to low & even with rod bucket & girdle there was no way I could get the rod tip up so had to back off drag.

A hr later still down deep & I asked one of the guys to start the motors so as we could plane the fish to the surface.

How Rude of them they told me to get stuffed ! can you believe that ??

2 hrs later southerly started coming through & oh oh ! a water sprout with the wind not looking good @ all still didn't know what the fish was ?

Well the 37 kg outfit had me stuffed so for the 1st & only ever time I passed the rod over to someone not knackered & gave him 10 minutes to get the fish in whilst I warmed the motors.

Mind you the fish was only about 100 metersbelow judging by the spool & I kid you not as soon as I passed the rod the bloody thing swan up to the boat all he did was turn the handle..

As stuffed as I was I gaffed the fish & virtually pulled it in the boat on my own cause that sprout was a bit close for comfort.

Next prob electrical storm :1yikes:

No compass [b4 GPS days] had no idea which way was home cause we'd been going around in circles it was black as all around us couldn't see land it all looked the same.

No choice I ripped the compass off the dash cut the wires & got one of the guys to stand aft to give me bearings.

Oh yeah just in case anyone was curious as to what the fish was ???

Well it was the Bloody Biggest Albacore that I ever Caught :rolling laughter: :rolling laughter:

Pic dosen't do it justice & it went 99 kg on certified scales check out the sickles

Only prob these days is I've Forgotten how to catch them long time between drinks let me tell you.

Did have plans to go give the YFT a shot today but got conned into going for a Bass fish yesterday & froze my nutters off ended up with the Hong K ong Foo'y & felt like crap all day today.

Did manage to venture out for a couple of hrs this arvo & toss some SP's @ some flatones but didn't want to be there.

Hopefully I'll get out on tuesday cant see myself recovering overnight + I'm keen to try out a couple of 15 kg sticks I only finished the other night.

Go back a few replys of mine & you'll see I made a comment of nice fice in regards to the ones the boys caught down Sth.

They were a nice change to see from the regular 20 kg & 30 kg models I've been getting last few trips out where we actually caught something
