Well I decided to give up breamin for a weekend and try for some of Sydney Kingys.

After speaking to Jo during the week, thanks for your help I decided rain, hail or shine we were going to chase some kings.

Left home at 4am, fueled up the boat and then headed to Tunks Park.

Arrived at Balmoral to find Frank aboard Wetpatch and cleaning up on the yakkas. Also saw Blacky there as well. How did you all go??

Second cast with he squid jig and we had our first squid on board. About 20 mins later we had 3 squid so we burleyed for yakkas. Saw a nice rat king swim through the yakkas but he disappeared as quick as he turned up. Finally we got 16 yakkas and headed off the get some kings.

Well the seas were crap and when in a 4.55m open plate boat things can get a bit wet. Arrived at bluefish to find out Frank had already got 3 kings and we were dripping wet from the ride.

Down went a squid and my mate dropped down a yakka. Not long after we had a double hookup simultaneously on 55cm-60cm kings with 4 phone a friends tagging along. Pics taken and released. I was using my saltiga loaded with 30lb tuff line and a 60lb trace. He was at the boat in 2 mins.

Another drop with squid and I put the rod in the rod holder then lit a smoke. I picked up my rod as I had a feeling that mr squid was not happy. bang on again. Got him to the surface an JOCOOL gives me a call. Heres me smoking with the right hand, phone pressed up against my left ear and fighting a kingy. Who says men can't do more than 1 thing at a time So another nice rat king. Released. My mate then pulled in another king on yakka.

I then decided to put on the big big squid and only managed a 50cm king.

Changed over to the 10kg baitcaster and lost 3 yakkas with no hookups.

Then decided to pound our way back through the crap. Jo it took us 30mins to get from blue fish to north head so that gives you an indication of how rough it was in the small boat. I was very glad to get into middle harbour into calmer water.

Well that’s about it. 5 kings and 2 happy campers.

Thanks again Jo. We didn’t manage to get to your bomby so maybe next time I can deckie for you so you can take me there.

If you take me I will catch the squid for you

Cheers

Lee

To many boats at the wave rider so we gave that a big miss.

Trolled from Little Manly to near Bluefish and back on Sunday morning using fresh squid. I did no good, but my mate on his yak picked up two rats and a bronze whaler (4-5 ft). All released.

G'day Dave
Hooking a 5 ft bronze whaler from his yak...that must have been scary! Did he get a free tow out to the heads?

Sean, we were already past the heads. He got a bit of a tow. Also got a big slash when he grabbed the leader and it took off again :(

turn left out of sydney heads, head along this first headland, when you get to the next point and Manly is in your sights, you are there.

When viewed from offshore a bit, it has a big green building on top of it that smells like someone's dropped their guts [as it should as it the control facility for Sydney North sewage outlet]

Be very VERY wary around that area mate. If you don't have a lot of experience handling a boat it can get very nasty VERY quickly.

You will basically be sitting on top of a breaking bombora, and it can suck you in with relative ease. I always fish there with the motor on constantly. Water depth can be anything from 3 metres to 25. I generally fish in 20-24 metres, up-current of the bombie.

The outlet in now 1 or is it 2 kms off shore. I think the old pipe is what holds the fish. Its very fishy.

No body said you have to keep the fish!
