Nice catch!!!

At that size they go bloody hard! We have got several this winter sofar my pb is 61cm, and my bro 58cm.

They have made a serious dent in our 50lb gear intended for jews and kingys !!! Dohhhhh! Oh yeh ah the pesky buggers have taken our squid, MFOE!

Outa curiousity did you eat it?

They are great eating, I would rate them with flathead,(my favorite) big white flakey firm chunks.

ive been snapped off several times by even small surgens when fishing for live bait before. great fun on light tackle.

Most angler's if they see them at all get juveniles, which look black or dark grey.Adults are pale grey to mottled off white(big males)I have hooked a few of the big blokes, and it was a traumatic experience(broken rods, wrenching strikes lines) going off like gunshots:luck:

today i saw at least 50 surgeons after burleying up
they went up to 90cm duno if the 90cm was a kingy or not but it was big and white but the rest were definitely surgeon.
these fish are crazy ive only ever landed one
hooked up so many before even broke my 30lb braid =( bent many hooks

Wow sounds like a very expensive form of exciting/visual fishing which ive yet to try! (expensive in all the lost tackle from bustoffs etc.) Ive gathered that these fish like to frequent deeper areas with clean/clear water which can be found around some wharves in sydney harbour but haven't found the inspiration to actually go & target them...Just wondering if any members such as Mr. kingyfisher here have had success & wouldnt mind to give me a few pointers or hints on how to catch these heavyweights???

surgeon fish fights harder than kingfish pound for pound. Therefore the 90cm surgeonfish drkcld saw today would be stronger than a 90cm kingy LOL. Which means its unstoppable especially if they are under a wharf because they'll just snag you. I reakon the only way you can get them is to spear them or net them of that size they are at. But then again i wanan fight them on a line instead cuz they are so much fun. Dont want any of them to die and disappear though.
