Went to nth enny with HSV and FPV on sunday early, spent a few hours from very early morning to just after sunrise.....Caught 1 2kg salmon just after arriving....Had live yakkas out for jews-caught them at wallys wharf thanks to Quinnie and Haji's advice.
All quiet from 3 till just after 5am then Mick's(HSV) rod goes off, trace bitten through after short but hard fight....FPV-same thing almost same time as micks rod goes off....same result bitten off......My first rod goes off and bitten through trace too, my second rod goes off again trace bittne through------bloody sharks is the call. This went on for next 10-15 mins then Mick's rod goes off and fight is on....Massive head shakes and huge first run, Mick starts gaining line and fish decides to go again--drag was pretty tight but line peeling off reel at a very fast rate...again start getting some line back and rod shaking heavily.....fish in around edge of gutter and decides to end the battle-trace was broken off near hook, different to other lost fish in fight and line wasn't scuffed as badly as others-I'm pretty sure it was a good sized Jew......
Headed home with only 1 salmon but had a great night. Funny how all was quiet then just on sunrise and for bout 15mins lines went crazy every time a bait was cast!
We will have to try again soon with some heavier traces and hopefully have some pic's to show of what was biting us off. BTW trace used was between 30 and 60lb mono...Changed to 80lb wire trace and not a touch!
