went fishing with a mate the other afternoon and both of us to lazy to travel very far as a consicense of the night before. so ended up on the beach to the south side of manly whalf to see if we could get any whiting, bream, trevally or flathead. after casting in around the side of the whalf for most of the time with no luck apart from so bait stealing toad fish my mate walked down to the other end of the beach next to the walk way and within 5 minutes called me down as the was a school of decent whiting feeding on the burly only 2m from the shore. so we got rid of the sinkers and started casting pippies around the school and were well entertained for the next hour before heading home at the end of the day we both left with 5 whiting each me with the catch of the day with one at 38cm. most fish caught were between 25 and 30cm.

Apparently the rock between the beach and the aunch Club used to be known as “Fisherman’s Rock”. It has been said that for many years fishing lines and nets were cast from this rock and kingfish and other fish were caught making their way to the now enclosed wall.
While Kingies have been seen scoping the waters adjacent to Manly Wharf I am yet to see one landed from this location!
