What type of marine Transceiver radio

Hey guys just wondering what kind or Transceiver should i have. currently i have A 27 Mhz Am Radio GME GX294. Will this pick up weather reports???? and how can i test to see if its working i guess the only way i know will be meeting up with another boat on the water. is there any other way of testing it before i head out to the ramp....:idiot:

Weather reports/updates are every 30min on 27Meg, they will tell you what channel to go to.
Its pretty hard to test it out before getting on the water, must be a direct line of sight type of thing to talk with another boat that is.

Hey Michael. Drop by my place some time and I will teach you how to talk radio talk and all that you beaut stuff.

There is a right way and a wrong way to use marine radios:pottytrain1:
88 is emergency and call channel. use 88 for initial call then pick a clear channel usually 91 to talk on.

Seriously as long as you dont have high rise around your place you'll be able to get a radio check in other words you dont have to be on the water to do so.

If you're hidden behind say cliffs you wont get reception

I dont see a battery & has the motor got a rectifyer fitted to it ??

got a battery, it powers the etc motor, i think it got a recityer to it, whats it do

A rectifyer fitted to that 30 mule power yammy allows you to charge a battery.

I asked because I couldn't see a battery

Quinny, can I give you a little hint....Changing colour striping and mud guards and wheels/tryes on your boat won't add to its value nor make it perform any better on the water.....stick to necessities mate, get your new sounder, get your marine radio, get a EPIRB and some flares...forget the pretty add-ons mate they're just for posers who have nothing better to spend their money on!

Not going to sell the boat in any time soon mate , it would kill be if i ever had to sell it, so do not care about the value going up or down, still fitting the boat out, :ohhh yeah: :red party:


and yes just like everyone said on here, save your money and get a good sounder, well i got a bit of money together, and well only want to spent $300 on the sounder as i got to get other thing for the boat ( no feral not changing the colours, getting new weels or changing the weel rims :rolling laughter: :rolling laughter: ) but getting stuff like a marine radio, sounder, bimini etc etc, also just thinking of changing the mud guards, i mean for $45 for the pair its cheep and i got that sort of money, ( just means can not go buying lots of fishing gear i prolly never use :rolling laughter: :rolling laughter: )

i got to get alot of things so i prolly not have space money anytime soon !!!!!!,

wen i deck my boat out it be great, got to get sounder,lights,bimini,radio, and some other things that i forgot,

after that i prolly be buying a second boat, looking at getting a 10 footer brand new with about a 2 year old 6hp motor, but no trailer as i want it to go on top of a campervan will be getting soon ( jayco hawk prolly ) so it be good for hoildays, limit will be about $2000, yes i be able to get this and deck the dory out without no money problems, yes quinnie only 12 but he has got money :1yikes: :yahoo: :red party: :hellyeah:
