Hi guys. This week end I had intentions of travelling down to Bermagui and spend the week end fishing my favorite reefs.
Strong wind warnings up to 40 knotts and seas to 4 metres changed my mind.
I thought I would have a look at the web cam/surf cam of Narooma bar to see if there was any silly buggers trying to cross it.
To my surprise it is as flat as a tack, not a white cap in site.
I know from previous experience that a westerly has this effect on southern oceans. I looked at the cams of a few other places up the coast and all seem like good conditions. And I know that if the wind shifts from a westerly to a southerly the seas will rough up within minutes.
Does anyone take any notice of what the conditions of these web cams appear to be and decide on that information to have a go and see what happens.
Is the modern way of deciding weather to go out or not based on this sort of technolegy, who takes notice of these cameras.

U dont generally take notice of any predictions given if planing a trip.

Having said that I've never been to Narooma either simply cause I dont see the point of towing all the way down there when the fish atr here off Sydney @ the same time always have been as long as I can trmember & thats the reason I've never been to Narooma.

Much prefer to go down to Greenwell Pt even if it's blowing up you can always fish the river.

As far as those sites well 1st thing I so is check the date to see if they're current

DC You don't know what you been missing mate. Fishing Bermagui is like turning the clock back 20 years and fishing Sydney.
Remember what it was like 20 years ago fishing Sydney, well that what Bermi is like now. A few years back it was like 30 years ago in Sydney and in another few years it will be like 10 years ago in Sydney. The longer time goes on the more the fish deminish.
If on the other hand the trend for commersial fishing in the area is declining slightly with a few pros leaving the industry. It may see some benifits in the long run.
When there is some close current at Bermi, the fishing is next to none, ( possibly SWR could be an exception ) but you probably have missed out on that area as well:duel:  ./.
Should come down with me some time and experience the beauty of the place as well as the great fish available.

The web cams are live action, what you see is what is happening.

I think the lack of fish is evident any place you go

Only in recent years have I really started fishing for fish other than Gamefish & really enjoying it.

But like I said when the fish are on @ Naroome they're on up here or moreso down off JB & the banks where I used to spend all my time years back.

But even down there the efforts of the pro's have taken their toll nothing ing to see 4 lfb boats on the Banks taking up to 8 tons of stripys day in day out.

Thats whats killed it not the lack of gamefish but the lack of baitfish last xmas only went out wide on one day no baitfish whatso ever they were all in very close & the LBG guys had another good season.

Me ? well ended up fishing for reds & the river nice & relaxing.

Never liked the idea of towing down to narooma [bloody idiots on the road] & the other prob I saw was the Bar didn't fancy sitting inside if it was working a bit to hard or worse still getting out & having to deal with it coming home cause if I go out I stay out & it's gotta get pretty wild for me to call it a day.

Never crossed the bar @ SWR's been up there a few times but always stayed @ Hat Head it was a Club Outing sort of thing not to impressed the 1st year I went sat in the caravan pk for the 1st eleven days & only fish 1'2 day on the 12th day then it was time to come home & let me tell you it took alot of convincing to get me up there the next year which turned out 2b a rip snorta got to fish every day.

Guess I've gotten lazy these days & dont travel a great deal to fish esp only for a weekend only because I've been lazy of late & haven't finished doing a bit of work that I've put off a trip to Sth Oz off till April.

Initially was going to get my bigger boat trucked over & eventually decided to bugger that & take the little one but I have no time limits & can stay as long as I liked.

My friends use the web cams for surfing as well as fishing, you must be gutted about the weather change, the harbour looked great today also. Pitty i had to work all day, i guess we can use the technology to help us but at pre dawn you cant see much.
