Launched the yak at 9 this morning from Clontarf, with Reece on board. We went west of the bridge to try breaming around the pontoons on the rising tide. Nothing but a tiny snapper for Reece.

Change of plan. Trolled a CD7 Magnum redhead and YoZuri Hydro Squirt around the bluff, through the moorings in Powderhulk Bay and up to Bantry Bay. Two throwback snapper to Reece and a 1.5kg salmon to me, all on the CD7.

By this time Reece was buggered so we trolled home with the same lures but this time using the leccy. Nothing but a plastic bag, and even that was taken by the CD7.

Good day to be out there though Dave - sounds like Reece needs some more work on those paddles or has he been burning the candle at both ends?

He has been working on his fitness by running, but not doing any upper body work. There were a few other points counting against him:

* He was wearing boardies, t-shirt and baseball cap. I was wearing long lightweight trousers, vented fishing shirt and my signature broad-brimmed hat. I didn't feel the heat of the sun whereas he did;

* He "knows" that the most efficient way to paddle is to keep your body still and just use your arms. I try to tell him otherwise but he won't listen;

* The front seat of the yak doesn't have foot braces so that reduces paddling efficiency

Regardless, we both had a good day. Next time he's on strike until he catches a decent fish.
