Hi All,

I am heading up the coast to an area I have not fished before i.e. Hawks Nest, and was looking for any tips/general advice on the area. I will be land based and am looking to have a couple of dawn and evening beach fishing sessions. Ideally I would like to pick up some table fish for myself and girlfriend and would appreciate any input as to areas that would be worth investigating and a decent local bait shop.

cheers

There's an excellent flathead, bream and Ray (big ones too!) spot at Tea Garden. It's about 50 mtrs left of the Ferry Wharf (to Port Steven). This spot used to be an old bath/pool. You must fish at high tide (too shallow otherwise) and preferably at night or early morning. Simply fish from the concrete wall (park car right there) and about 30 mtrs out. Watch out for big ray. Caught half a dozen flatheads the last time I was there.

The other good spot is at windyhopper (Hawks Nest, myer river) but you'll get snag quite a lot.

If you have a 4WD, try fishing at the beach at lemon passage. You can get to the beach via many of the 4WD track of take an easy route via the entrance close to the Golf Club and keep driving north. There are abundant of pippies you can use for bait (20 the limit)
