How good is the harbour fishing now the pros are no longer..... Des Toms of hookem cookem charters was out taking some customers fishing @ the spit late last week hopin for kings. Things were a little slow, so he decided it might pay off if a squid head got sent out the back to the bottom. Maybe there was a jew around?
Anyway it wasnt down there long when the zzzzz's started. the customer grabbed it, but line was peeling off the reel at great pace so a buoy was clipped on the anchor rope and the anchor was thrown. Time to chase this fish... a good 20 minutes later after a spirited fight on light line, a flash of silver seems to confirm Des's jewy hopes, but then the fish rolls on its side, and its red........
An 80+cm Spit Bridge Old Man Snapper...
How good is that

It's Snapper season down in Port Phillip Bay now too, maybe in a few more years Craig McGill wil be running Snapper charters instead of just Kingfish Charters in the warmer months....wishfull thinking

Great Red :hellyeah: surprised that the kingie gear wasn't enough to stop it:ranting2:

We can only hope...
i've seen pics of the old timers at the spit in the 50's and 60's with 10+ kilo snapper caught from shore, so theres a good chance!!
