Caught this in North Harbour on Saturday. The bait was nearly as big as the catch! Any ideas what it is? Looked a bit like a snake.
Other than catching a 36cm bream (new pb), was very quiet on Saturday.
Blacky, were you out on Sat? I saw a few tinnies, but they were a bit far out to paddle to, especially given the wind (and the fact I'd a slow puncture).
cheers
Sean
Called a Grinner. I'm not sure of the scientific name, but they are common enough around the place.

Guys and Sean, it is a fish of the Grinner Family, but it is not a grinner, it is called a Painted Lizardfish. There has been a few around.

Joe's right, it's a grinner. They're a pretty common catch on plastics.

That's about the size of it! Look at the thing. Do you think anything in it's right mind would eat it?
On the subject of strange @ss fish....
Do others still get a thrill when they catch something they've never seen b4, or something they have never caught b4

Yeah Sean, i was out there although not much to report. Caught 2 Calamari squid at Manly point at 7am. Headed out to the cardinal markers at Dobroyd point to see if there were any kingies about, nothing on the sounder. Drifted around for a while and caught a sargent baker, rod cod and snapper all on plastics (a first for me). Wind picked up so we headed up to Nth Harbour and drifted around in front of the moorings for nothing. Couldn't pick you out amoungst all the kayaks on the water, they're very popular around there.
Cheers
Blacky
