Until the forum is better laid out in sofar as what topic goes where, I have a question to ask everyone.

I have been reading some catalouges, specifically the Wellsy's. It lists a huge array of different rods. What my query is, is what are the differences???

You have stand up
strokers
short strokers
jigging rods
live bait rods
chair rods
Bent butt chair rods
plug casters
and the list goes on.....

Now I know what some of them are, as they are self explanatory, but what of the others? What does a stroker do that a Live bait rod won't? What criteria is used to differentiate?

A technical question Joe is best left to the technical types to answer - I could have an educated guess, but I won't.

What I am sure of, is that a plug caster is the rod that Pete uses to remove the bung from the back of yachts moored at Roseville

A stroker esp fitted with a roller tip isn`t my first choice for live baiting. Roller tips and braid don`t go well. I think the tips are also softer.

BUT pick up 2 strokers of different brands of rods and my bet is they too will be different.

Alot of the time there isn`t too much difference. Thats what ive found anyway.

a stroker style rod is typically short. Normally around 5ft6in, they can be slightly longer or shorter depending on line class (longer for lighter lines, shorter for heavy gear) but in general, 5ft6in is the norm. They are incredibly powerful rods that use their powerful buts, fast tapers and short length to lift strong fish from great depths. they were origianally designed for tuna but nowdays they are popular for kings and marlin too. I use my strokers for livebaiting all the time and they are fine for it, but plenty of other people prefer different types of rods and that is their choice I guess.

wellsys is a great company to deal with Joe if you haven't found out already, their service is simply fantastic.
