This morning on 2mmm Bridgette Duclose complained about the same thing i.e is it cruel???

She was a bit more open minded though as she likes to eat fish, just doesnt like seeing them hooked!

Is it true that fish cant feel the pain of the hook???

I find it Extreamly offensive that people can't mind there own biz.
we don't tell them not to barbarically attack plants they eat (do plants have feelings?) if it continues we will all die of starvation!

Pain is usually associated with feelings, fish do not have feelings, although tests have been done on some fish like Trout and found while they are injured their behaviour does in fact change. But i do not believe it is because of pain rather the fact they have sustained an injury, and therefore alter thier movements or behaviour to compensate the injury?

Just goes to show you that there are people out there that are nothing but wankers.
I would love to throw these idiots off the back of a boat in a shark cage amongst a school of feeding kingies and tell me if the baitfish or squid live in peace.
We all know its fish eat fish world down there so where are these idiots educated.
Lets visit reefs where the hammerheads and whalers are feeding amongst the baitfish in the estuaries and see if a small pin prick in the toughest area of a fish causes the same reactions.
The pain thing is a farce and it has been proven in labs that they dont feel pain. They feel discomfort or they feel restraint when they are caught, but they dont feel pain. Discomfort was defined as not being able to move with normal freedom.
This PETA idiot is just trying to get into politics so he can line his pockets with superannuation payouts after only a few years.
You can bet that the greens will soon allow them to join in government or join with the democrats as a part of the new proposal that they are touting.
The democrats want to ban the taking of all wildlife from the eviroment full stop.
Not only will it stop the hunting of animals on land it is a back door designed to stop fishing. Now I dont know about you but in 40 years of life I have never hunted an animal in Australia or caught an endangered animal while fishing. I have never intentionally hurt a fish and I dont know of anyone that has.
Is it the lack of nutrition that makes these somewhat deathly looking people say ridiculous statements. If so I have a steak I can shout them, a big fat juicy rare one, with heaps of there favourite side dishes of, barbequed flying fox or grilled rock wallaby stuffed with fairy penguins.
To those that support this PETA proposal, Go hug a tree as at least they will appreciate you (do plants have feelings or will you once again be left to feel unappreciated) as the majority of poeple in Australia would like to see you all piss off back to America. Go on, go and take a cane toad with you when you leave and remember, Last one out SHUT THE DOOR.
