View Full Version : Christmas Hoildays
Hey guys looking to get away at the end of the year. either up the coast or down the coast must be close to the beach so i can walk with the mrs along the beach:gay: yeah right so i can fish. and i little night life maybe a bar :alcho meter: ...
any good suggestions..
Mick. Pick any little or big spot up or down the coastline and I'm sure if your with the one you love, it will be right.:red party: .
I will be going to beautiful Bermagui for a few days, as I do every year.
It's about 4 - 4 1/2 hours drive south, between narooma and bega.
Lovely area with good beaches. they have a type of carnival atmosphere in the main town during xmas and sometimes have helicopter rides jumping castles and all that sort of thing.
two weeks either side of xmas it's just a sleepy little fishing village where nothing much happens, if your not into fishing.

I like Ballina, my old home town. A lot of jetties to target jewies, sand flats along the yacht club for whiting, mangrove jacks in the creeks in East Ballina, trevally up river near Pimlico/Wardell and massive flatheads up and down the river. Also close to Tallows Beach at Byron for stargazers under the light house. Would love to move back there, except for the booming real estate prices and poor employment.
North Coast will prolly see more fish than South Coast, i would go to Forster or even further North like Kuma has suggested.

I meant stargazer fish, not the standard star gazers of Byron:smoking33: . You could check the twin peaks at Broken Head beach, spent alot of time inspecting the symmetry :yahoo: .

North Coast will prolly see more fish than South Coast,
Not the case @ all both Nth & Sth coasts tend to yield good fish that time of the year.
With boats I've been going down to Greenwell Pt/Crookhaven Heads for past 25 years I think & Currarong B4 that when I fished the rocks.
Either way which river you decide to go up or down the coast think you better pull your finger out & book a place else you'll be sleeping in the car

Mick....We're off to our regular spot...Yamba-Great fishing, beautiful beaches, nice town centre to grab a bite to eat or browse the cool little shops, not as many hippies as Byron and did I mention great fishing, not sure on the night life but I'm sure it would be up to your standards...
We stay at a caravan park on the Clarence river in a well set-up cabin, will be borrowing a mates tinny which we will have sitting on the river. Last few years the kids have been getting their fill of bream which school under the wharves. Top spot-bout 8hrs drive and I highly recommend it!:ohhh yeah:
Jason

Jervis Bay is a lovely spot. The time you are going is sheer bedlam and crowds are pretty big down there. Try and find a bit of space on the beach will be hard but early morning/dusk might find you a few fish. Good luck Mick I miss the place

but i was thinking weres a good spot with nice waters and a bit of night life and i thought of husskison and then came on to post it and
read you decided on jervis bay thats freaky:red party:
Mick. Hope you get accomadation mate, Jervis Bay is a rat race during Xmas. It's just too close to Sydney and you get too many day trippers going down there and causing chaos. It's the same as the central coast, just bedlam.

Gets very crowded & think Mick will be sleeping in the car :rolling laughter:
Never stayed in JB itself but the joint does get packed genenally rent a cabin on the water @ Greenwell & leave the boat moored out the backyard saves trailering it all the time.
Hi Mick, our family has a place at Ulladulla that consists of two seperate appartments, we rent the bottom one out during holiday periods.
It is located just above Rennies Beach near the lighthouse, 3 house blocks from the stairs down to the beach. Good fishing, great beach and heathland walks including some walks constructed by the local indigenous people that is very well done and worth seeing.
Two bedrooms, one with a Queen size bed, the other a double plus 2 bunks. Gas Bar b Q, TV, DVD, Sound System, library (lots of fishing mags), Washing machine, Dryer, Dishwasher,Microwave etc. And waterviews from the lounge/dining area.
Plenty of restaurants at Ulladulla/Milton, also Macca's etc, shopping is great and plenty of antique, clothing and homeware shops. Good pubs and clubs, (2 within walking distance of the apartment)
If you are interested I can send you a brochure or give me a call.
Cheers
I forgot to add, our street being a cul-de sac is very quiet, tourist generally do not come down there so you will not be bothered with the hordes of people that hang around areas like Mollymook etc. Also, Racecourse Beach is a short walk (via the heathland walk) from the apartment. It fishes well for all types of fish (including Blackfish from the rocks at the North end) and is lovely to walk along early in the morning. Mrs Haji and I often do that walk, takes about 1 1/2 hrs for the round trip. If you want an independant opinion send a PM to Bass Flicker, he came and stayed with me recently.

Hi Mick, Listen carefully to these fellows, I grew up at Huskisson, and moved to Sanctuary Point just around the corner, I left there for the bush in 1983,
The terrorists at xmas were in massive numbers it is a lot worse now' I have two daughters still down that way and wouldn't visit them around xmas,
Another 50ks to Milton/ Ulladulla would be worth thinking about,
or think of going bush the country is serene at xmas time, AND the rest of the year for that matter.

Hawks Nest dude,
great beach fishing, some realy good holes along their to fish, can drive on the beach, for accomodation you have many options, caravan park, or you can tent it opposite the beach and the ranger comes around now and then and takes a small fee for staying. Their are beach houses a golf course, with club and the bar you were looking for.
You will get good size tailor, salmon and jews of the beach.
Best of luck with your choice.
Guys this mrs booked a spot up at Nelson bay somewhere please tell me its good!!!!!!!!!!:red party: :red party::hump:

oh really ill ask him might catch up....
Hey mick If I were you I would be hitching the boat on the car, just tell her it's for stability or traction or something, would be a real shame to be on holidays up there and not have a boat. It's a great place and you will enjoy it.
