Bass Minnows are a plastic made by Berkley. You rig them on a jig, or a jig hook. Never tried them in the surf, so I don't know how it would go. You can get them at nearly every tackle shop in Sydney. I know Big W has them, but in limited colours.

Thanks i guess that means i have to look a bit harder or ask them clerks. What is the best color and what weight should the jighed be to cast in about 30-50 metres. Also how much are they and howmany are in a pack?

sorry if i ask to many questions, new to sp's

thanks a heap

Hey Jase,

If you look around a few other sites there are some excellent articles on fishing SP. I hope the mods won't mind me mentioning FR - but the articles there on SPs are pretty good. But out of respect I will let one of them post the link.

Check them out.

Cheers

Bass minnows are excellent for bream trevally flathead and a host of other species. The best colour in the clearer water is the watermelon and the dirtier water the smelt. They need a fair bit of action and work and jighead sizes between 1/8 and 1/32. Keep in contact with the lure or watch for taps on your line. I use the bass minnow most of the time when fishing for bream in the harbour, they are tried and proven. Heaps of comps have been won on them.
Hope this helps

To keep them on the top go unweighted and give a little twitch up ever now and then, the bream cant resist the flutter on the way down. Bream are like cats chasing a mouse( I nly heard that analogy yesterday) , in the way they follow a plastic, they watch then tap then pounce! Down deep on a heavier jighead of up to 1/8oz i find a drag drag hop works best.

I Caught my first fish on a sp yesterday at the rock at brghton. well technically i didnt catch it but i saw it about a meter from shore it was a flathed the sand tiger one about 25 cms and had bites on the first couple of times i casted in. After that nothing i dont no why. it was a berkley powerbait that i had found there and just put it on a jighed. could it be bacuse it lost it smell?
