Headed out yesterday around 5am, stopped at the fish markets (very dissapointed all the shops only open after about 7) managed to get some frozen squid after some high level negotiations with the staff at Peters(still better than service station bait).
Was fishing on a mates boat, who is pretty much a non-fisher, so the squid were hard to find, I had to catch all of them.
I got 2 at the nudie beach and 1 at Quarantine.
In lieu of a downrigger, I tied on a monster sinker and slow trolled all the markers from the one off Shark Island up to the ones north of Sow and Pigs.
Found the kings at the green marker north west of sow and pigs. All three squid were smashed on the drop, took about 3 minutes to lose all three.
Hooked up to a cracker, who ran due north for about 30 metres, then u-turned and did me under the marker.
The other two drilled the squid but I dropped them (too early, too late, wrong hook?)
Once they were gone we bottom fished for some undersize squire and a few pesky bream.
Nice day on the water though.
Have told my mate next trip out will be purely for the purpose of showing him how to catch squid. Once he is up to speed I am sure we will be amongst them.
Again no pics, my apologies, but hopefully next time I can get a few and post some pics.
Cheers
Rob
