Dave I'm guessin you're talking bout the nepean and the associated creeks off it.....I threw a few lures around about a month ago and caught a few small ones so there must be bigger ones around....Theres plenty of spots between camden and Penrith that are well worth an explore and definately take the rod and a healthy assortment of lures....Would be more than keen too catch-up one weekend and give it a go with you!

Did a job at douglas park (close to camden) in winter and remeber thinking it looked like bass heaven. I reckon you would be able to have some good dusk sessions alll around that area. That stupid weir at penrith would have to have some massive affects on fish migration to those upper reaches though wouldnt it???

I'm gonna do some research and report back on the flow of the nepean.....But even spots like Badgery's/kemps and other creeks between here and you BF would have to hold fish!

In their natural state yes but these creeks are far from thier natural state. I would love to find out more. If there is any one who is reading this post that can tell us the most obscure place that they have caught bass on the penrith side of the wier it would be very helpful. I know I have encountered them in a VERY unlikley little creek smack in the middle of Londonderry, it didnt look like it had connected to any major tributary for decades.

I used to hear of reports of Bass caught on the freshwater side of the Georges River at Casula.

Long Point near Ingleburn and the Ingleburn weir are other spots in the georges worth a shot.

They are right through the Nepean River all the way to and beyond Douglas Park. This season with the rains we have had will see some better fish move back into those upper reaches.
Thats the main reason we have had a great year in the Hawkesbury & lower Nepean, the flooding rains we had just before winter brought all the big girls down from where they have been stuck for a few seasons, if we keep getting rain they will keep climbing as far as they can go.

BF I was told by a reliable source that the weir isn't the only spot the bass can get through to the Nepean.

Thats good to hear. Now that you say it, it makes a bit of sense, I have been bass fishing up at emu plains before and thats well away from the wier. That wier is a terrible thing though.

Don't dispair guys, none of those pissy wiers stop them, they get past every 1 & most have fish ladders or they go around the edges when flowing.

with the last rain they ran all the way to the end of southy (opsite end to the river) and skiped through most of the creeks and dams from eastern creek, brynes creek, butress creek , .... been fishin some weird spots. so not only are you getting fish from the nepean ur also getting the running rouges from the opsite. most broad waters have bass out there

Both. We fish from boats, canoes, kyaks, and on foot. Some creeks can only be accessed by foot

Check out the menangle bridge, Between Menangle park and Menangle on Menangle road south of campbelltown. Get some lovley Bass there just around the corner, up the top end of the little beach. Poppers at dusk work best.

its a nice little hideaway that one

cheers
