Hi Guys,

On Sunday I caught my first fish on SP's. Two Flatties using 3" Power Minnow- Pink Lemonade, 30 & 37cm. Fished from 11am till 12:30 wading in the shallows near Dolls Point.
Yesterday afternoon I thought I'd try again but because of the wind I went around near Foreshore Drive - Botany Bay.
I tried every SP i had in the bag, even GULP Sandworms, but nothing. Sooo quiet. Even the other fisherman (Bait fishing) on the beach reported no catches.
Next thing.....I see the water around me start moving violently. Followed by a few splashes here and there. At no stage did this fish leave the water...but instead was just underneath which caused this awesome wave effect...like a jet fighter going over water - maybe not quite!, or a submarine about to surface...but obviously alot smaller (to scale). At first it freaked me out as it was overcast and i was wading to waist height.
Anyway, I got to briefly spot this Fish and it was about 40-50cm long, and it appeared to be terrorising the baitfish in the area. It came within 2 feet of me but was moving so quick it was hard to see well.
It was splashing around near the baitfishing guys but seemed uninterested in their bait - Prawns/Pillies/Chicken.
Given my theory on chasing baitfish, I quickly slapped on a metal and started spinning near where it was spotted as did a couple of the other guys near me. Whilst i could have sworn i spun that lure past him several times he just would not take.
I have never seen a fish behave like this. Any guesses as to what it was? It had a "salmon shape" about it.

Do a search on "frigate mackeral" - time of year for them and they are often seen very close to shore, even beaching themselves at times
