All it takes is one bad batch of fuel or water in the lines Mick

I've just had to replace all my injectors cause of water

Mick pull them apart yourself dead easy & you told me you've had a bit off mechanical background.

Carbs on 2 strokes are a common fault of motors not performing & it's handy to know how to service them.

Think to many peeps say BUT MOTOR ONLY JUST GOT SERVICED !

May be true but bet the motor was running just fine next trip out & you cant blame the outboard mechanic if your boat dosen't have adequate fuel filtering or a water seperator & you get a bad batch of fuel.

yeah but not good on carbs EFI no problem....

hey Dc it gets real hot :sunny:out there when your working on the boat. Ok think i finally sussed the problem went to start it and dead again no click no nothing :ranting2: . so i pulled the controll box out cut all the wires off the switch and labeled them and it started no ideling problems or anything, I remebered the boat mechanic telling me the switch could be playing up , what i think he ment it was shorting out the and killing the motor.... so now i got to get a switch....hope this fixes the problem:banghead:

Good on ya Mick.....You gotta listen to the Storms buddy as we spoke bout today....replace that barrel mate, intermittent connection will cause that as we agreed today(same thing that caused that prob you had a while ago)! When fault finding always start with the simple end and get into the more involved bits later usually saves time and $$$$ and you get to learn bout your engine bits!:headbang:

Mate you never stop learning

Many moons ago back in the day's of paper sounders I'd just purchased a Royal .

Anyways the Stupid thing was only 3 months old & it was giving me grief, not good cause back in those days I used to leave the boat @ Greenwell Pt & go downevery weekend & the sounder was in my book a vital piece of equipment esp the way I fished I used it to travel the drop offs when pulling live stripy's around.

It stopped working one day kept blowing the fuse so I wrapped a bit of foil from a cigerette pack around it.

Took it back to get repaired & was told warranty didn't cover it silly me 4got to take the foil out b4 dropping it off.

This was @ a place callled Nautilec no longer in buisness the sounder cost me $500 back then & I was told it would cost $300 to replace the motherboard cause it had broken circuits on the board.

Back then dont think to many knew anything about electronics including me so I had no choice but to exept what was told to me.

Get the sounder back just in time for xmas break was going down for a week, 3rd day out the sounder **** itself again fuse was ok.

I had the sh*ts so that night I pulled it apart not having a clue what to look for, what I did find though was my original motherboard in the sounder a new board had not been fitted & all they did was solder in 2 wires to bridge the broken tracks mate I was furious.

After a closer examination I also found what had been causing the probs with the sounder it was a poor connection from the factory I managed to tidy that up & next day I had a sounder again.

Well I couldn't wait till I confronted that ***** Wayne @ Nautilec when I got back to Sydney & how good was this his shop was full.

I pushed my way to the counter dropped the sounder onto counter & politely asked for my money back both the $500 paid for sounder & the $300 for the alledged new motherboard.

He basically told me **Are You For real** & that's when I lost it but I walked out with my $800 & all those customers were also walking out of his shop.

After that I developed a liking to ripping things apart to see if I was able to locate probs & fix them like I said you never stop learning

I have many more Maurice but the moral of that one is dont be afraid to try & find a problem if something isn't working as it should esp with electricals.

Often the case even somebody who dosen't know a great deal can spot a loose wire or a bad connection.

as far as that Nautilec went well he had it coming to him & alot of my mates stopped going there after that incident & it dosen't take long for word to get around in regards to these shonks trying to rip people off.

ok back to the drawring board, I have now noticed that when i put the boat in Neutral and idle while the muffs are on its humms perfect, likewise when i i go into forward gear its fine and so is reverse. BUT when i put it into the the water and i go from neutral to forward or even reverse it dies on me :bricks: ...why is this doing this is it lack of compression.......:blow up me:

Doubt very much it's lack of compression

Did you replace the ignition switch ???

Mick originally in this thread I thought your prob may have been fuel & still think it may be reason being even if prob was electrical you'd still be able to take off in the boat your coils etc would only start breaking down under load when you've backed off & tried loading the motor again.

You're not even getting to load the motor up you may want to have a read here

Hey dc yes ignition switch has been replaced, but it has done it before it was replaced . It was changed cause it had problems starting it .the problem it still has is when i start it with the muffs on its fine no problems forward and reverseno problems, only in the water when i go from neutral to forward or reverse it tends to die but if i go fast from neutral to forward and go flat out its fine no problems....

Buggered if I know dont own a Mariner :rolling laughter:

Adjust @ motor end easy to work out if you're not to sure just lift up warm up lever & see which of the 2 cables moves
