Hi just wanted to know about whats going on at warriewood beach. LAst time I went there for a fish the weed was so thick it was impossible to fish any one been down there lately?
G'Day mate, I went past Warriewood this morning, there was a bit of a gutter towards the southern end, and seemed to be clear of weed. The problem is that the swell is on the increase again. I was going to fish Warriewood this morning as my second choice (first choice the Pines on Narrabeen beach) if my first choice was written off due to conditions or surfers. Ended up fishing the Pines for nothing - as the tide went down the swell also increased making conditions real tough. Strong sweep too, lots of lead needed. Looks like the beaches could be a hard prospect this weekend. Real bummer, as my son (a keen surfer) tells me there's heaps of baitfish and a few bustups beyond the break.
Good Luck, let us know how you go.
Cheers,
Neil

Thanks for that mate! could you possibly explain how swells work and what effect they might have on fishing? thanks in advance
Swell influences the wave size, generally, the bigger the swell the bigger the waves at the beach (unless it's a westerly swell, or has a large westerly component, as these are essentially waves that are travelling away from the east coast of Australia). Definitions of waves and swell are not my strong point - a dictionary would be the best bet.
The effect of big waves at the beach mean that they tend to break on any sand bars, preventing fish easy access to the gutters along the beach. There will also be a lot of sand stirred up in the water, which I understand fish do not like.
When the swell dies down a bit, then there's food in the water that has been brought out by the vigorous wave action, this tends to be a good time to fish as not only this additional natural food in the water, but the high wave activity often helps create new gutters/ sandbanks and other structure along the beach.
There's another thread on locating gutters in the forum somewhere. If you're interested use the search option above.
Hope this is of use.
Cheers,
Neil
