Chucking unweighted plastics off any heavy live baiting rod is never gonna be easy, It's a big ask to do both.

I've recently bought a steve starling jig stick by ian miller, full graphite rod, nice and light in weight,- rated as 15 kg jig, fair bit of balls in the lower end and will be doing duty for throwing squid at kingies in the harbour, trolling and of course jigging. Cost me $99- blank comes out of the butt similar to the t-curve jig stick 200 and 400 but les then 1/2 the price.

Check it out if you can.

cheers and cold beers

Yeah have to say very happy as I thought I was going to be buying similar to yourself, carries the stiffness all the way through to the tip.I put a tld 15 on it and pulled line of smoothly on strike (5 kg) with plenty in reserve   .

The jig 200 and 400 were $247 each, but couldn't justify that amount after checkin out the steve starling jigstick.

sounds exactly what I was after, except in eggbeater setup, as i have the Spheros 8000 on mine. oh well, next time. Is it a new rod? might just check it out anyay on the weekend :D

Yeah brand new,warranty, etc.

Gives you a good excuse to get another and have the silstar as a vnice guest rod.

ok guys i plan to use 20lb line
and i will mainly be livebaiting but any lures i do throw will most probably be big shads for jews and occasionally sluggos :?
that steve starling rod sounds a lil too stiff for my purpose?
is there a lighter model?

Hey mate,

Maybe have a look also at the Daiwa Coastal Tounament 7 footer. CHS701HS I think. 10 to 20 PD line class, lure weight 1/4 - 3/8.

Perfect for big shads and livies with a 4000 size reel, nice cork grips too.

I go mine for about $170.00. Great rod for the price.

Cheers

yeah I agree with Grant. I have a coastal 10-20lb and I will be matching it up with a 3500hd certate. The rod is dynamite.

Cheers

What are your thoughts on the Silstars? Ive broken two in the last half year without even trying to! One broke cruising back from Browns in my rocket launcher, it had a fight with my $15 bait rod and lost, that bait rod was a silstar too. And in the Classic, i just pulled line out the top and it snapped 3/4 of the way up!

Some of my mates from WA use silstars for tossing plugs for tailor and gt's. they are casting over 60 metres most of the time and they haven't had any problems. maybe a bad batch?

Two different rods, different styles only around the $100 mark, but i feel where they have the fibreglass clear section near the top, they weaken very easily after sun and salt etc, even after looking after them. Just me i guess.

Try out the gloomis pro blues they are bullet proof, tough as an ugly stick but all graphite and have the lifetime expiditer warranty and they are under $400 retail and we have them at the windsor shop with 15% off for the next couple of weeks, just mention this post to get the deal. I have been using one all season and wouldnt change it .
