Lads, fished off the wharf at Pickering, Middle Harbour on Sun morning and hooked a couple of nice bream - 31 and 33 cm. Also got a leatherjacket. Fed the family last night (I have a small family!). No sign of any pelagics, but the bream provided some fun on the light gear. Caught on frozen pilchard pieces. Enjoy the photos.

thanks lads. The photos were prob just good luck and timing..I'm certainly no pro! I find tickling their marbles helps them stay still.
I threw the last photo in for good measure - to see if someone could confirm the species. I'm pretty sure it's kookaburra and not owl. The poor crater sat in that same spot all day long. He looked about 110 yrs old. Here's another pic...

Its a tawny frogmouth (Podargus papuensis).
It is a largley nocturnal Owl though they will move around during the day but not to hunt. They usually inhabit forested areas. The breeding season is Aug to Dec so its possible this owl was out on a big food round up for its young and got lost in your backyard.
