Hi,

I am currently looking into purchasing and am considering an Overhead Spinner. I mainly fish Sydney Harbour for bream, whiting, flatties but also take some charters round Pittwater for Kingies, Mackeral etc. I was just after some opinions on the differences between normal spinners and overheads. Do overheads have more power? Would a meduim sized overhead still be suitable for general harbour fishing, even land based or are they more effective for trolling?

Cheers,

Simmo

That's a good question, and one I also would love to know the answer too, hopefully one of the more knowledgable fishos will be able to help out...:)

overheads are generally stronger in comparison but there are some fantastic threadlines on the market that can take a lot of pressure. For what you are describing, I would say a threadline reel would be all you need.

I would have to agree with that, a spinning rod is all that is required. The overheads are great though they need a bit mre practiceto get them right. And they can be a bit of a bitch to cast in the beginning, with all the backlashes and things like cast controls. However in certain situations, you wouldnd use anything else.

A tought spin stick and egg beater is all you will need to land all the fish you mentioned.
