Hi,

I have this little quintrex estuary angler and was thinking of having a backrest made for the back bench that also has rod holders on the back of it. All this I like to fasten on the side railings using some sort of clamping system so I can take it off for transport.
Nothing flash. Anybody has made something like this before or had something made, as they do not seem to be available after market. I do not plan to learn to weld but will prolly have to pay someone to do it, it is just that I need parts, especially the clamping system to clamp onto the railing I can't get my head around. (I am better with computers than with this stuff).

anybody have experience with this?

here is a pic of the boat to get an idea http://jl.vanzanen.com/images/general/2007/december/Data/page.htm?137,0

I've made alot of thingamajiggys up for my boats over the years prob because I keep changing my mind on fishing methods.

Think you 1st need to give a bit of info on how & what type of fishing you do ??

I have a mate with the same goat as yours all he ever did was chuck a rod or 2 over the side & hope for the best.

After a few trips out on my boats he now wants something similar to what I use.

Another thing you need to consider is 4.2 meters is not that big so whatever you decide on has to really do it's job well, also dont know if you lurecast ?? but if you do then you dont want to add something that gets in the way either.

It is a bit of a hybrid boat and the backrest makes it easier for family trips while the rod holders get all the rods out of the way on a small boat. I can get a little traytable that fits in a rod holder for cutting up bait.

I will do some lure fishing as well as some bait fishing planning to spend as much time as I can on fishing, so a bit of a hard call really.

Jack. If you can give me a design of what you want I can make it for you.

It's a very hard call what kills the wittle tinny's is those bench seats I had them in my 4.8 & did away with them but I also re-enforced the ribbing.

My boats are pure fishing boats not family boats thats why it was simple for me to convert them into what they are.

Just give it some good thought B4 proceeding

I'll have a good think about it this weekend what I want to have and will contact you after that. As said it does not have to be flash, but has to be removable

Pretty simple if you want like a bench seat back rest right across the rear twart seat with rod holders built in.
The simplest way of fastening it would be to have 1/2 rounds that sit on top of the grab rails and a hole drilled through both sections with stainless steel bolt and wing nut.
This would mean holes in grab rails when seat back not fitted.

I will see If I can get a picture of what I mean, and post it here later.

OK although not the best of photos, you can see the principle of how it works.

You have one half of tube the next size up from the rails welded onto the seat base, and a hole drilled through both with bolt and wing nut.

This is how my rocket launcher is attatched and it can hold 10 rods and been in heavy sea conditions and hasn't budged.

Here is a simple cushion I made to lean up against.
It simply slips over the rail and I can move it from rail to rail bepending where I'm fishing from.

Very simple and very affective.

that is indeed a simple and effective way of doing it.
I'll think about the physical layout this weekend

Check out the Bermuda range of boat fittings etc. I have been quite impressed by the range of after market gear that they have in their catologue.

You can view most of the range at Andrew Short Marine at Taren Point.

Cheers
