Well i was hoping for a better story for my first posting. But hopefully u folks can give me some advice and i can make my next one more interesting.Went out on harbour monday morning public holdiday. Launched at rose bay ramp. Headed for shark island first with fresh harbour squid and whole pillies as bait.Hoping to try and get my first kingy. Nothing much doing here. Moved off to wedding cake where there was at least a dozen boats. Current was so strong was unable to hold bottom few nibbles but nothing was being brought up. Decided to drift to Sow and pis reef. Few nibbles but nothing agaon in. Headed to sth head again nothing on. Finished up bac at shark island where i saw 2 kingys pulled up by another boat thats been there all day. I was using light gear as well as 20lb line strips of squid and whole pillies on gang hooks. Stick baits with jig heads. Berley with pellets. 5/0 mustard hooks with 60lb mono trace. What would i be doing wrong?Any info will be greatly appreciated.:alcho meter:

you sound like me mate. you do everything right and still get burnt.

persistence has to be the key.

also, is the squid really fresh? who caught it? you? or did the bait shop claim it as fresh?

maybe try hunt a few live squid and put them out.

by the way, my advice is prob invalid as i never caught a king haha

Hey freshfish.....You just gotta mix it up a bit and change little things to hopefully change your result! maybe you aren't giving the fish enough time to get into your burley trail and follow it to your baits.....I usually give a spot a couple of hours and often others will come and go when bites are slow but persistence usually pays off.

Try unweighted baits on a single hook. Usually if Kings are around you can berley them up into a frenzy and they will take unweighted baits. Trolling some lures close to markers can work. Slow trolling squid strips can work to set at various depths either by using a heavy sinker or downrigger.

That's great advice thanks for that. I will try and stay a little longer in one spot. Best way to know if your bait is fresh is to catch it i suppose. I'll try this all out on my next trip once that's if it ever stops raining.:icon_smile_big:

Welcome freshfish.
I've had better results making my own burley:puke: It stinks.. Its messy.. but it beats pellets when you get it right.

There is a thread somewhere on the subject with a few recipes. Try a few out and see what works for you.

But dont use your wifes blender to mix it:stone: They just dont understand the impotance of burley:violent1:
